Yes, we need to wait for actual reviews to conclude where SD 4 Gen 2 fits in terms of raw performance. I agree with you on the point that this is a great SoC for phones with pricetag around $150. The phones with similar performing SoCs (SD 695, Dimensity 900 and variants) are priced around $200 and above. So this is a welcome development in the lower mid-range segment.

To me this is j... moreIts not refresh move from lpddr4x to lpddr5 will increase bandwidth by around 50% even if they use same gpu it will be more powerfull, so those minor improvements and faster ram you will get significant improvements, Also optional ufs 3.1 (assume Oem use it) can make day to day usage snappy, first phone anounced cost $140, probably redmi 12 5G and this Poco will be cheaper too, its great little soc.

Recently benchmarks which was posted here in Gsmarena also show 4 gen 2 can indeed match D900

Samsung had improved 4nm, am not sure if sd 4 gen 2 use that process but you can clearly see big improvement from E1380 and E1330.
Those Score may be fake so lets wait for full reviews,
Also sd 4 gen 2 has many Quality of life features like Ufs 3.1 support and lpddr5 support, assume Oem use full 3.2Ghz lpddr5 then gpu will be more powerfull, we dont know Adreno 613 in details but on paper it wont have problems vs G68

The sd slots and 3.5mm jacks are being spread individually by Xiaomi across their midrange lineups.
Sony can be imported from China and they included Japanese models too.
And there's no need to be disappointed with LCD. These will outlive the OLEDS screens as seen with burned models flooding the used markets.

Dimensity 900 has 2 A78 cores clocked at 24 GHz, while SD 4 Gen 2 has 2 A78 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. So SD 4 Gen 2 would have about 10% less CPU performance than Dimensity 900, isn't it? I don't think Qualcomm has put a powerful GPU in SD 4 Gen 1 or Gen 2, so overall Dimensity 900 is a better SoC than SD 4 Gen 2 in raw performance.
There is another important difference - SD 4 Gen 2 is fabbed in Samsung's 4nm foundry. while Dimensity 900 is fabbed in TSMC's 6nm foundry. Not sure if Samsung's 4nm process is better than TSMC's 6nm process node. But that would impact heat/battery life/sustained performance of the phone, not the peak performance that is measured in benchmarks.
You may need to provide more details on how you came to the conclusion that SD 4 Gen 1 is better than Dimensity 900 in performance.

Seems like if you want consumer-friendly conveniences like an SD card, you have to go for LCD- and 2mp camera-equipped phones. Removable batteries. Gone. Headphone jack. Gone. Continuous screens. Gone. Headphone jack. Gone. Micro SD slots. Gone. Sony, which is nowhere available, is the only manufacturer offering these things. Perhaps it is a statement on us consumers rather than on OEMs.

To me this is just a refresh of the SD 4 Gen 1.

Asume Oem use top configuration for 4 gen 2, its Going to slightly surpass Dimensity 900 and be bit behind dimensity 1080.
For around $150 this soc is really good.

It'll be interesting to see how the 4 Gen 2 performs...
4 Gen 1 was a surprisingly good chipset for it's price range, definitely better than the MediaTek Helio G85 and G88 chips which lack UFS support...
