Samsung weren't involved in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It was based off TSMC foundry 4nm node.
The earlier heat prone underperforming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was based off Samsung foundry 4nm node.

The possible configuration of the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 is 1-Core high clock speed X4, 3-Core low clock speed X4, and 4-Core low clock speed A720. ARM's little core has low performance and can't be compared to Apple's Little Core. Therefore, we can expect MediaTek to replace the A520 with a lower clock speed version of the A720 to achieve better performance at similar power levels. As for the X4, I believe the reason is similar to Google's using more than one big core.

OEM were more interested in 1200 because higher peak performances...so devices with 1200 appears first.
As a user of 1200 and Kompanio 1300T (tablet's version 1100 with higher screen resolution support), I can't feel any difference between the two outside benchmarks.
They have advantages over 870 like AV1 hardware decoder (available only since 8 Gen 2 on Qualcomm's)

mqondy, 31 May 2023You think 7gen1 was garbage?can I have what your smokingIts barely an improvemt over the 778G (roughly 5%) while being FAAAAR LESS efficient because it uses a stinky samsung node vs the 778G's TSMC node.
Xiaomi 13 Lite with 7Gen1 vs its predecessor Xiaomi 12 Lite with 778G

VS
https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_12_lite-review-2437p4.php
Bottom part of Performance section, look how horrible the 7Gen1's thermal characterisitcs are compared to the 778G. The 7Gen1 just throttles HARD and is all over the place, meanwhile the 778G is rock solid consistent and stable. Also Look at the specs in the main page, the 12Lite gets 100h of Battery life using a 4300maH battery, the newer 13Lite only gets 93h of life DESPITE having a larger 4500maH battery. Pathetic power efficiency and thermals for the 7Gen1
Dont believe me that the 7Gen1 is stinky? Go watch Geekerwan's video
https://youtu.be/yRfEcfPrajM?t=435 (7Gen1 is stinky vs 7+Gen2 and 8100/8200)
https://youtu.be/s0ukXDnWlTY?t=752 (Processor Efficiency and 8100 dominance)
Look how poorly performing the 7Gen1 is compared to the rival Dimensity 8100, the 8100 is amazing because it matches even the Apple A14 in efficiency while performing roughly at the same level as the SD888. Samsung saw this and decided to underclock the 8+Gen1 to make the 7+Gen2 because they knew that if they continue selling the poop 7Gen1 then mediatek will devour their midrange marketshare.
If you think the 7Gen1 is good then you are the one smoking something weird lol
Anonymous, 31 May 2023Probably no A520, but A510 instead to run legacy 32-bit code 32bit apps are being removed from the Google Play store, albeit indirectly (without re-building, they don't fullfill the minimum OS version and manifest files requirements). Google doesn't require new phones to be able to run them at all. (Apple did this in iOS 11 6 years ago.)

Qualcomm has to sold it under its price to compete...
It is only possible because of patents abuse and FRAND disrespect...it's predatory behavior, like the one they did to remove nVidia from smartphone competition or Intel from modem competition.
Anticompetitive behavior is in Qualcomm's ADN since decades!
FTC explained this very well...
Qualcomm was lucky 9th Circuit saved their butt!

Make to compete with dimensity 8100 but is 20% behind

In fact, Qualcomm canceled the design...and produced a downclocked 8+ Gen 1 under 7+ Gen 2 name to replace it.
