Not having latest OS does not make phone useless. I am using android 12, but would still use easily android 10 if phone had come with it.
Google has not add useful things in years.
Low end that came with android 7 and still has it can use more apps than iphone that came with iOS 8 and is now running iOS13.
I would not mind installing updates if there was 100% guarantee it is bug free.

Sales do not dec... moreMeanwhile on outside of Us, especially on Asia, older iPhones are popular because it's cheaper and also has long support to help them when they have a problem (+ social status too) so, apple doesnt just care on just one country or state.

Sales do not decrease.
By the way, survey done in USA shows majority of iphone users replace the device within 24 months. Giving 5-6 versions of iOS is just making Apple lose burn unnecessary money.
