There's so little innovation on Apples part that, having a different style of buttons is newsworthy...... apple peaked a long time ago and I'm afraid it's the start of the downfall.

Let's see how long that'll last. Can't help but think about Sony who removed the headphone jack before but only to see them put it back since 2020 and keeping it to this day.

whats the point of removing the literal BUTTONS on a phone? it's not even in the same category as removing the headphone jack or expandable storage which is there to get you to buy the solution.

Solid-state buttons are good if they're useful and done right. Using them as volume and power buttons on a phone doesn't really make that much sense. Plus it would take a while to repair.

Good stay that way. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Never know what proprietary internals they'll change that would impede rights to repair.

Knowing Apple, they will make solid state button replacement needing a reprogram like the battery and display panel.

Now, how will one turn the phone off without software and turn on without charger if no movable button or switch exist? There's moving inside the phone to complete a circuit. This means they'll have to take away the ability to manually turn on/off the phone.
Elimination of such limitation should be welcomed and not lamented.

Love the Community, 06 May 2023HTC did what no one does and showed that solid state buttons on computers like your smartphone... moreIt is not about what is done, but who does.
Htc got bashed for the squeeze, while pixel 2 praised for same thing. When pixel 2 could only open camera while u11 could do more things.
U12+ got bashed for the buttons, now iphones will be getting praised for same.
It is like something called gommick, but later becomes "must have" when samsung adopts.
