Anonymous, 18 Apr 2023It has nothing to do with size. S9 has two, Pro-i two as well (next to have more). Huaw... moreOh I thought those 10 steps mechanism eat more space?
No, number of stops have nothing to do with the size of the sensor.
It's ironic, this partnership with Leica, all that complicated name for the lens, and the aperture mechanism is very basic compared to what Huawei build after they ended their partnership with Leica.
Anyway, better than nothing, finally a phone with this sensor that offer a smaller aperture.
But I did noticed that they cheapened out a bit with the other sensor, much smaller than before.
Shui8, 18 Apr 2023Sadly only two steps. Huawei can make it 10, advantages on having smaller sensor I guess. It has nothing to do with size.

Huawei simply wanted to pay for it.
Other did not.
Shui8, 18 Apr 2023Sadly only two steps. Huawei can make it 10, advantages on having smaller sensor I guess. That's true. But since it is a phone and computational photography does a lot of heavy lifting, 2 stops ought to be enough.
But tbh, I would have liked a stop at f2.8 and another at f5.6 and avoiding F4 if needed.
Best camera phone
Volt, 18 Apr 2023I hope it is not significantly more expensive outside of China and they better not take too lo... moreIt will, just look at the Xiaomi 13 Pro fiasco. This is def launching €1500+ in Europe.
Now that's what i call my new phone...

Unless companies introduce Meta lens and stacked sensors, the camera bump thickness is going to increase year after year.
Rear cameras excellent xiaomi got it right
the front is still the 32MP omnvision sensor which is very little for a top of the line 😩
Variable aperture FTW 👏
It will be interesting to see if the sensor can utilise stopping down. F4 will bring significant improvement in normal daylight conditions if it works as intended.
I hope it is not significantly more expensive outside of China and they better not take too long to release it worldwide.

It's cooled by a toilet?
(Also, thankfully I won't have to deal with USB 2.0 jokes for a minute.)
