Android phones don't need to be updated every year to maintain app compatibility. I'd struggle to find anything on the google play store that won't work on my android 10 device. I can't say the same about even an iOS 13 device.

They say they'll do it, so wait and see if they meet their goals. Let's see the other phone companies do the same or better, then you can complain that Apple aren't doing enough. People saying it's meaningless because they want to sell more new stuff entirely misses the point. All the phone companies want to sell as much new stuff as they can. But most don't bother to try to mitigate the damage their business causes.

Maybe, some people are just tired of them doing lipservice to ecology.

Really sad how many comments here with nonsense conspiracy-like denunciations of Apple, because they hate Apple. Apparently any effort to improve their environmental footprint is either fake, meaningless or pointless. After all, there's still some flat-earthers out there, right? But what are all those Chinese phone companies doing? Who cares, at least they're not Apple, right?

They're still moving parts and stocks around the globe by plane and cargo, which is conveniently substracted from the products' footprint because, well, it cannot be done otherwise so they just come up with a different formula - as long as it sounds greener than green and cleaner than clean, it's all good for green-washed marketing.
