SirArtur, 06 Apr 2023I went with LMC 8.4, and the best place is the XDA forum. You can see millions of comparisons ... moreMany thanks for the helpful response!
I knew about XDA but all the endless comparisons make it more confusing and not easier to know what to pick, so I wanted to have the opinion of someone who picked ;)
SirArtur, 06 Apr 2023I so don't agree with this one. We should absolutely expect more. The issue that I'... moreAgain, I'm definitely going to believe a video with dozens of pictures, and not some random dude with one example on some forum. Also, the video confirms what I've experienced myself with iPhones.
Hey lads, does anyone have an issue after this update when I shake phone my camera make very loud sound inside like rattling? I know phone OIS is inside and you could hear it very little bit noise rattling but now is mad is so loud I could hear it pocket when I walk. Thanks

You can see millions of comparisons between different versions and stock apps. Also, you will find there all manuals who to download it and load all configurations.
TheAlienNextDoor, 06 Apr 2023No we shouldn't expect more. You either pixel peep and thus need a proper camera, or you ... moreI so don't agree with this one. We should absolutely expect more.
The issue that I'm showing is Samsung and Samsung only thing. I don't see it on the iPhone, don't see it in GCAM, and cannot see it even on my old OnePlus 7T PRO! So sorry, but it is not a hardware limitation, it is just bad algorithms on postprocessing.
And especially for you, the most obvious one - https://www.amazon.com/photos/shared/5ActpArwRpyAXmEpvoyRqw.H-ZklvOmSNfu-EMEts6VdO . Look at the pillow. You have some details in the middle, and then it is just a mess all around! It looks bad on so many levels. Again, it is not the case in any other output.
TheAlienNextDoor, 06 Apr 2023Sorry but no, you are objectively wrong.
The gcam image has sharpening applied so it's s... moreAgain, not the case. GCAm has almost no sharpening. The texture that you are seeing there is there, it is true to life. I have been there. It is my furniture. :) Look even on the picture 12 Mpix from Samsung. It is oversharpening details, but the texture is visible there as well. On ExpertRAW it is not, it is just blurred out. Just like plants.
And as for contrast, it is because of the Samsung expert raw profile imported to Lightroom. Again, look at the stock image from Samsung. It is as well more contrasty.
The plant is exactly how it was. In the Samsung picture, it is blurred, not another way around. Will attach an image from the closes when I'm home so that you can look at how it looks in closeup. First time ever I see someone is telling me that GCAM is sharpening more than the Samsung app. :D
SirArtur, 06 Apr 2023As for appealing - this is because, on the import, Samsung DNG is the only one that has alread... moreNo we shouldn't expect more. You either pixel peep and thus need a proper camera, or you don't and thus any phone above $300 would do...as you say.
The thing is, if you're not pixel peeping, which most people aren't, the extra processing and sharpening actually looks better. So either you pixel peep and thus prefer RAW, no processing or oversharpening. Or you don't and Samsung's inages are best when not pixel peeped.
Gcam and iPhone are some weird middle ground amalgamation, with iPhone going far too overboard with sharpening, and Pixel with contrast.
SirArtur, 06 Apr 2023Well, i disagree. On ExpertRAW wooden pattern behind flowers was just blurred into one big mas... moreSorry but no, you are objectively wrong.
The gcam image has sharpening applied so it's showing details which aren't there or is exagerating them. This is especially evident on foliage like that plant.
Also, the gcam image is way too contrasty. Just look at the microphone on the right side, it's basically invisible on the gcam image.
TheAlienNextDoor, 05 Apr 2023What I can tell you from that single example you've provided is that the ExpertRaw pictur... moreAs for appealing - this is because, on the import, Samsung DNG is the only one that has already profile applied in the LR. Changing that to Adobe Standard or Natural, it makes light, shadows, and over-picture light/color close to Apple one. But didn't want to change a thing from standard input.
Yes, when you zoom out all are fine. But that would the case for almost all smartphones from the last 2-3 years above 300$. All pictures would look fine on the screen without zooming in. I think we should expect more from a device with a such price tag as S23 Ultra.
TheAlienNextDoor, 05 Apr 2023What I can tell you from that single example you've provided is that the ExpertRaw pictur... moreWell, i disagree. On ExpertRAW wooden pattern behind flowers was just blurred into one big mass. No single detail is visible there, while in GCAM you can see it clearly. Look at the flowers itself on the top. Again, Samsung is applying noise reduction and details are gone, and yet they are completely visible on the GCAM. I have added file with direct comparison with selected areas that I'm talkin about to that link. Here is direct link:
GCAM on the left, ExpertRAW 50 Mpix on the right. I have seen this behavior on many photos now. In random like places, Samsung applies the extensive nosie reduction, which cannot be reduced even in DNG. You can take 10 pictures in row of object with some pattern, and areas with that noise reduction will be different on each of them. It is not matter of the DoF, as it is same on both, and it is not matter of that banana problem with S23. It is just processing.
I'm using LMC 8.4.

I largely agree with the assessment you make as well, from what I can see.
One question, though: what version of gcam do you have? ( How did you get it? )
SirArtur, 05 Apr 2023I have seen many comparisons, mentioned one included. But what I like, and what I see from the... moreWhat I can tell you from that single example you've provided is that the ExpertRaw picture is by far the most appealing. Nothing comes close to it. Yes, the Gcam picture is better than both the Samsung and iPhone picture.
Zoomed out however...they're basically identical. The only thing zoomed out that is noticeable is that the lighting on the last picture (I assume is the Gcam one) is too yellow.
Luke, 05 Apr 2023I'm just curious if the banana photos have been fixed, along with the focus. So there is... moreOk, I did some additional extensive testing and I've got to say...it isn't fixed, but also that it will never be fixed because I don't think it's broken.
It's not banana shaped but circle. Only the center of the image is razor sharp in focus, whereas the edges are ever so slightly blurry. It is only visible if you zoom in 400% on pictures of documents. And if you intentionally take blurry close-up pictures you can see the letters warp and blur in a circular fashion.
I've had a much more visible blur on the sides of pictures on my S22 Ultra.
Documents are very legible, it's just if you really zoom in that you'll even notice it.
If you use the 3X sensor, which is A LOT smaller (same size on base and Ultra), there is zero blur. It's the tradeoff we accepted when we went to much larger sensors. Those 1/2.55" sensors from the S6 to the S10 never had any blur whatsoever. You want bokeh? Well this is what you get. You can go with the Ultra and just use focus enhancer aka use the MUCH SMALLER ultrawide sensor.

you got me so pissed with your ignorance that i've uploaded pics on google drive, original untouched quality
so let's analyze it a bit
selfie - no only vivo has a wider field a view but it can see face details , one of the reason vivo's face unlock work so much better
samsung 3x vs vivo 3.5x indoor light - look how more details vivo has on the cat shelter and notice how much noisy is the white wall ,tiles and cat's fur on samsung
samsung and vivo 8x indoor light, samsung between the zoom lens looks unusable with lack of details while vivo is more versatile looking good at any decent zoom range
samsung and vivo low light- look at the tiles details, look at the speaker, on vivo you can distungish the speaker circles while on samsung is just black
All pics were taken on auto except for the selfie where i had to disable samsung's display flash and enable the widest view
In good light there's no point showing any pic because even a midrange looks good.
Also should have probably find some bright lights in low light to also show how much better vivo handles them on HDR.
Samsung has better HDR for selfie but only on video and video stabilization is better especially in 8k but these are scenarios that the camera are rarely used.
I'll copy paste this message to all sammy fanboys till they realize that all chinese flaghips today have better cameras than samsung.
TheAlienNextDoor, 05 Apr 2023You lost me at "I don't have to look at the video".I have seen many comparisons, mentioned one included. But what I like, and what I see from the direct comparison is a different thing. But ok, there you go - snaps from S23 Ultra Main App (Camera Assistant Softness on medium), S23U With GCAM, and iPhone 14 PRO. All 12 Mpix.
You have all 3 in full res, as well as side by side comparison. In the center, so part of the photos that I compare, S23U is more processed. Look how much more sharpening (despite setting it down in camera assistant) and more processing in the shadows are happening on Samsung. How much contract Samsung has applied. This is not how it looks. iPhone here is more true to life. Then, check the comparison with GCAM. That is completely on a different level. Details are there, processing is mature. NO halos, no artifacts, wooden texture true to life. Hands down best of all three. And GCAM is the only reason why I use S23U as my daily driver.
As a bonus, you have there as well 50Mpix ExpertRAW vs GCAM 12Mpix. ExpertRAW is 50% so that you can easily compare it. Look how Samsung has decided to apply DNG noise reduction on wooden patterns on my furniture. You cannot tone it down. The slider for NR is on 0. So I am happy, that people find S23 Ultra camera apps good for them, and happy for all reviewers that they like the device, but I just say what I see in my daily usage of the phone. For me, Samsung has to work really hard on the processing of photos.
TheAlienNextDoor, 04 Apr 2023Can confirm, banana blur is gone when taking pictures of a document. My S23 had issues focus... moreI'm just curious if the banana photos have been fixed, along with the focus. So there is no banana? And sharpness is good throughout the photo. For example, if you take a picture of a document.
