Speaking of UFS cards, Samsung has been making one since 2016. However, it didn't gain much popularity since it costs 2x to 3x more than a typical microSD card and only works on Samsung notebooks.

But future UFS card is interesting
It could be the real solution

This sd7gen2 plus could be the best chip ever for it's price range and if it ends up in a phone with a SD card slot then I'm going to cry from joy! Was considering getting sd8gen2 which is finally a great flagship sd upgrade after the 888 and sd8gen1 fiasco but this chip sounds so unreal that idk what to do.

The two are manufactured by two different companies and have MUCH different efficiencies. 8+ Gen 1, which is produced by TSMC, is much more efficient than 8 Gen 1 which is produced by Samsung. (Bad naming I guess, ordinary people will be confused for sure.)

              Wow.
That’s amazing. It’s the same degree of upgrade we saw when Qualcomm made the upgrade from the special QSD 768G+ to the lowly QSD 778. As a reference; that previous midrange could barely compete against the ancient QSD 845, with most of its variants being even slower, to a newer midrange chipset which was outperforming the legendary QSD 855, a chipset that was a heel-toe behind the then-flagship QSD 888 chipset. That was a huge upgrade, and this is the same thing happening.

It seems Dimensity chipsets were getting pretty competitive there, hence Qualcomm has stepped up. For those that didn’t understand, this is the new “flagship grade” chipset. It’s great to see this performance and efficiency for customers, as a midrange/cheaper/better value.

It should outperform an overclocked QSD 870, which I used to call “flagship grade”. All the while, this shouldn’t have any throttling issues like we saw with the QSD 888, QSD 88+, or it’s newer cousin the dreaded QC 8g1. RIP the Sony Xperia 5 mk IV.

This is essentially the same chipset as the QC 8g1+ but it’s clocked 10% lower. I would hesitate to call that an upgrade, ditto for the new QC 8g2 as well. The only reason to NOT get this chipset would be because of the QC 8g3 in 2024 which is an upcoming new standard, and a huge upgrade for Android devices.

Huge megapixel of camera is just merely interpolation only become burden of memory and cpu? Huge wattage only become burden on your ic and batteries, include other components.

I just wondering why you not complaining about this issue, but make it look like an innovation right? Is just marketing trick to make the customers always bought new phone every year.

Is funny to see when can give huge wattage but not usb 3.2.

Almost forgot to add – another very overlooked benifit (imho) of USB 3.2 & even microSD (other than the obvious fast sequential read/write speeds for the actual transferring bit) is the much faster random read speeds which come in clutch while actually browsing through your media on a laptop for example!

A few months ago, my brother could simply, very easily & quickly just put in his 256GB microSD from his 64GB Realme XT into his laptop, browse, select & transfer files, compared to me – I had to plug in my 256GB X7 Max into my laptop & then wait for what felt like an eternity for the DCIM folder (the Camera sub-folder for the pedantics) to even load up completely!
And then when I go to scroll & "try to" select the files for transferring, by the filenames ofc (because Windows conveniently doesn't show previews), or God forbid try to filter & sort by date, the Explorer(.exe) would crash & in fact fail to even load the desktop (or explorer.exe essentially), until I unplugged my phone!!
And when I finally manage to re-plug, wait for it to load & select some files, I can't select too many together, or it would crash. Plus it doesn't even show the transfer speed (not that it's much to begin with lol), so I keep Task Manager Open for monitoring!
                        It's just a GIANT pita!!

I like the idea of a NAS, but it's a tad expensive if you don't have the time to build your own, plus you won't always have super fast internet connection on your client side even if your NAS is hooked up to your super-fast fiber (again assuming that majority even have that)
Or are you talking about that USB port on most ISP routers into which you hook up your HDD?

Anonymous, 17 Mar 2023It's not really needed for mid range and entry level but for flagships it's a must. ... moreI agree mostly, but I'd argue that even mid-rangers costing upwards of $350-400 should have it, the entry-level MAY skip it though!

Not everyone who shoots a lot MAY want or could afford a flagship!
I've been shooting in 4k ever since I got my first phone in late 2016 (a 64GB ~$250 Android back then, without microSD slot-I think that's enough clues to guess which phone, gosh I miss that form-factor so much), except when I was (or am) low on storage, want better stabilization rather than stabilising it later in an app (since OIS isn't common on mid-rangers, but that's another pain-point to take up later), or if I just want to capture a video but not in the highest quality because the subject might not be important in my eyes.

It's annoying ... moreI can see the usefulness of an ultrawide camera on smartphones, but the depth/macro sensor has to go. I really can't see any worthy use for them, especially when you can embed macro capability on both primary and ultrawide cameras. Huawei can even do it on the telephoto camera as in the Mate 50 RS Porsche Design.
