Patrik, 21 Mar 2023Don't forget that Tab S6 Lite with both Exynos 9611 and Snapdragon 720G have DEX.It is a tablet so it's excusable. XCover 6 pro however is a phone.
Where are the true flagship features, huh? If the A series was about flagship features, then why not Add Dex to the highest top phones like the A7X (if that'll ever happen) or even the A5X. The only A series that got this feature is The A90 5G, which is 4 years ago.

The Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 costs $300 (or maybe even $250 now) and includes not only a charger but also a free 256GB MicroSD card.

madsl, 22 Mar 2023> Android phones doesn't suddenly stop working
They do actually.
Doesn't happ... moreI am in the same boat. My oneplus6t stopped working 2months ago and I lost all my data and pictures. It just froze, then got into boot loop and then finally stopped working at all. I took it to the repair shop, was told by some that firmware corrupted and some said the motherboard has to be replaced. Whatever the problem is everyone was quoting a repair cost that's 50% to 70% to current exchange value of my phone.
Now, it's lying in some drawer and I have been without a phone a smartphone for two months. I didn't use my smartphone much, only to communicate on WhatsApp, LinkedIn and some job platforms, that's it.
I don't play games on my phone at all and don't even like to watch stuff on a small phone screen and even then, my phone for some reason I can't seem to comprehend gave up.
Now, I am following phone releases and I want a microsd card slot and good phone update support, below 400-450$ range and only thing I see matching that is Samsung a-series. I am waiting for further price drop, because it's still on the expensive side.
My sibling recently bought a A53 5g and is liking it so far, but since that was a big purchase, I have to wait to see any price drop and remain smartphone free.
So, I concur with your statement

Yes, older versions of Android still usable.
I mostly repalce phones because of battery or internal memory degradation.
If battery is replaceable (more or less), internal memory is not.
I still have Nokia 808 PureView. Liked it a lot when it appeared. This phone has easily replaceable battery, but internal flash is weared so much, that phone is completely unusable.
Modern flash chips improved a lot. But we have now "Ram plus' swap which is enabled by default and just increases internal memory wear. 1st thing to switch off if you plan to use the phone a bit longer.

No, they don't suddenly stop working because it wasn't updated for the most recent Android version, a Android phone running Android 10 can run the same apps as a updated Android 13 phone so it doesn't stop working, as I said, Android has excellent backwards compatibility on its apps.
I'm not talking about phones running ancient Android versions, also there are A LOT of people in the world running outdated Android version and their phone still works perfectly.
I didn't said they stop working as hardware defect, I said about running 2 or 3 prior Android versions, like S10 series didn't suddenly stop working because it's on Android 12 not 13, neither any phone running Android 10 and 11 stopped working suddenly cause it wasn't updated, also there A LOT of people using phones even with Android 9 and they can still run almost all apps on Play Store.

Doesn't happen often, but happened to me. Without any understandable reason and no damage just got frozen one day and didn't switch on any more.
That's why I like to have phone with microsd card and data backup to microsd.

I own A52s and I got 2 Android versions already, and will receive one more, A53 and beyond will receive 4 Android updates, tf u talking about midrange receiving only 1 year of support? Samsung update policy is even better than Pixel.
Anonymous, 21 Mar 2023I was talking about older flagships. Why would you pick an A54 over an S20 or maybe even an S2... moreS20 series is terrible, crap Exynos 990, the Ultra have autofocus problems until this day, abysmal battery life and plagued by dead pixel lines on the display after a while, also, Android 13 was its last Android update, now on only security patches for 2 more years, A52 and beyond have more time of updates.
A5x today have the same update policy as S series, get your facts straight.

No need for purity (or poor) UI, lose warranty or spend my time with ROMs testing. Current Android loaded as well. Imho OEM should provide adequate SW in the package and Samsung does it.

1) extend the life of your phone beyond the 2 year period. If you have a pixel this shouldn't be a problem, but every other phone manufacturer only updates your phone whenever they feel like it. In the case of midrange phones, they only get 1 update before being thrown into the scraps. Custom ROMs help people get new android versions without consooming $500+ every 2 years. I have a midrange phone from 2017 that stopped getting official updates after android 9, and I have a custom ROM of android 11 on it (it has android 12 now too but I hate the UI).
Personally as a linux user I think it's stupid to depend on a company or random ROMs for updates rather than updating it yourself (my two PCs from 2022 and 2011 both run the latest linux firmwares and softwares, nobody telling me what I can and can't update).
2)ROMs increase battery life as you have much less bloat on it. My phone lasts days without needing a recharge.
3) ROMs increase privacy due to having a lot less google software (unless you flash gapps). and yes you do have something to hide and everyone does. denying it is a cope.
so say what you want but it's better to at least have custom ROMs than to have to throw your phone into the trash after 2 years.
