Anonymous, 22 Jan 2023How can you just dismiss the results of your OWN vote as „loud minority“?! 45% said they want ... moreBtw with all the 6.1 inch iPhones I‘m seeing out there I‘m starting to think that this section of the market is becoming a loud majority that the manufacturers just ignore.
How can you just dismiss the results of your OWN vote as „loud minority“?! 45% said they want a phone 6.1 inch or smaller, yet the market gives us 95% of phones with 6.5 inch or larger. Maybe people would buy them if they were actually available. Not everybody is shopping in the $700 price bracket where the 13 mini released. If Samsung and the Chinese finally started offering a 6 inch phone in the $200-300 price bracket, we could fairly judge if people actually want that size, if they can afford it. From what I‘ve been hearing (though no data to back it up), Pixel 6a is rather popular and even recommended by lot of „tech reviewers“ even though it is specifically not 6.5 inch or larger, but just 6 inch.
ShubhamDeshmukh, 22 Jan 2023GSMArena Team Just wanted to clarify regarding the voter userbase & why 6.1" matte... moreSimple solution is to just buy s21. Can't afford s21? Buy s20. Still can't? Buy s10. Still can't? buy s9. And still can't? Buy galaxy s1
potato4k, 22 Jan 2023Clearly irrelevant. Best selling Android phones so far are the A52s (6.5”), and then the S22 ... moreThey are selling well in spite of their screen size, not because of their screen size.
Samsung, Oppo and Xiaomi, you have a sufficient budget to afford yourself a small sales failure.
If the vox populi really is correct, make a 6" phone for 200-300 euros and see how the market reacts.
Yes, I know that the battery size cannot be as big as on 6.5 in behemoths. But Zenfone 9 already disproved your theory- this sub 6in phone easily lasts a whole day with a very powerful processor.
GSMArena Team
Just wanted to clarify regarding the voter userbase & why 6.1" matters.
The majority of voter userbase cannot afford to buy iPhones or S22 or even ZenFone 9 which happen to be the only smartphones of sub 6.2" size & height below 155mm.
The average smartphone selling price worldwide is below 300$ mark. This even goes down in developing markets like India where it is currently below $200.
If we make a simple search for available models in the market today in GSMArena database having height below 150mm, it comes as a shock that there is not a single smartphone from a major manufacturer like Samsung in the affordable price range, other than the S22.
The extreme push towards increasing display size is totally against what users are asking for. The sweet spot should have been around 6.4" but we are yet seeing Samsung pushing the envelope beyond the 6.7" in affordable models like Galaxy A23 which is a mighty 165mm tall phone!
I don't care much about buying Chinese brand smartphones due to longetivity & reliability concerns which is why I prefer Samsung, & this trend of Samsung being out of touch with reality is saddening to say the least.
I guess most people don't realise the bezels have reduced massively in size. A 5.9" display phone from 5 years back has bigger dimensions than a 6.2" or 6.5" being sold today.
When I tried to vote for this poll, it refused and said VPN users are not allowed to vote although I am not using any vpn app and my WiFi is normal. Can anybody including GSM team reply why I was counted as vpn user and not allowed to vote?
Clearly irrelevant.
Best selling Android phones so far are the A52s (6.5”), and then the S22 Ultra (6.8”). In fact, nothing smaller than 6.4” in the best selling Android phones.
Should smartphone has 8 inch with 21:9 display or 6.5 inch with 16:9 display like mate 20x and z ultra?
For me ideal is 4,3", it is in case if screen is almost all front surface of phone, i.e. if bezels are thin. Most important is size of phone, not screen. For me ideal is as nokia 5230.
It's amazing how you totally refuse to accept the poll result, and how you call people wanting smaller phones "the loud minority", based even on a wrong background.
iPhone minis had one very strong opponent - iPhone SE. Being small and far cheaper it took most of those wanting a small iPhone. Mini could not succeed with its price.
So you have decided to strike out a large group of people and say that the second most wanted option was a large 6,5". No, that's a lie!
There is a sizeble number of people who want phones below 6".
people dont know 6.1" is so small.
Like a cheap redmi Go.
Maybe they want to vote the size of non-pro flagships, which is 6.35"
no one screen size can fits all people needs... someone want bigger one, others want smaller one...
Bigmeme, 22 Jan 20236.5 with zero bezels would be perfect. Anything bigger is uncomfortable zero bezels? and 1x drop your phone become memes
It is not always about screen size, most of the time people don't find some important features they want in that so called small phone so they just go for another phone. This poll is actually like asking what is your dream car and the car you can actually buy
