What NOBODY on this planet is doing is a MINI FLAGSHIP! I would like a 5-5.5'' phone with the best wide & periscope cameras, even if it gets as thick as Nokia 808 for all things to fit in. I bet it will sell much better than plain crappy minis.
I think the problem with the smaller phones is that they don't get the performance quality like the bigger phones. Iphone mini had some disadvantages compared to the normal Iphone. The last Iphone SE had an old display, no wonder people didn't buy it. Companies tend to put everything on the bigger phones so people end up avoiding the smaller ones and buy the more expensive ones.
sohail shafayat, 22 Jan 20236.1" is perfect in 16:9 ratio! 18:9 the best, some youtube video won't be fit on 16:9. Worst ratio is 20:9 above like most phones nowadays
We need s22/zenfone 9/pixel 6a format phones as thick as the camera module with lenses. 9mm thick with 4000+mAh battery FFS :/ Protruding lens is bullcrap. Why make the body so thin with crappy battery? I can handle +30g in my pocket.
"Market numbers just don’t support the idea that such small phones are popular"
the answer is because most of times, the smaller phones are weaker (while they can be just as strong, as asus and sony proves).
but manufactureres like samsung, dosent even let you have a small phone.. even their midrangers are huge like the A52\A53\A54.
so the numbers cant support that idea of course.
i wish more manufactureres will make smaller while strong phones!
Screen size matters a lot for me but i want the screen to bee edge to edge without bezels or not more then at the very most as 2mm on the edge for bezel. Also i want the phone be more compact so 5.5 - 6 Inch is perfect. S22 and S23 are 146mm tall and have 6.1 Inch screen as this is compact phone for modern standards.
But we only have these 5.9-6.1 inch screen phones on high end flagships as the rest of the market is from budget to that flagship all in 6.5 or larger screens that seems to be standard size on everything now.
Talking about market donw want more compact phones is a bogus when they have none in the market to know what market wants. They only have big and bigger for market to know what people want.
Even tough standard iphone sells well and is compact in size. Same with S22 that sells well
Anonymous, 22 Jan 2023It's possible, just not really convenient. Don't forget older Note models, the firs... morewe could have smaller models like the first note as you mentioned, but then say goodbye to 5000mah battery, 10x periscope camera and large screen that doesn't hurt your eyes (like iphone se).
The selling numbers seem to support the biggest possible. Maybe 7" is where industry stop, as any bigger wouldn't work, but then you transition to foldables
I really liked the xz2 compact, but it's now 6 years old or so.. the choices now are very limited, below 6" it's almost impossible nowadays to find a good phone!
Back when I started using LG G2, I thought 5 inches was PERFECT and the biggest screen anybody needed (except those who watch movies on mobile phone). And my LG G2 managed to squeeze 5.2 inch into 5 inch body, so it was super awesome. I had the same idea when I bought Samsung Galaxy S7 - 5 inches diagonal is ideal.
Now I'm using Samsung Galaxy A52s, 6.5 inches in diagonal. And it's great!
Except, 6.5 inches with "elongated" 20:9 screen is 5.5 inches in "traditional" "wide" aspect ratio (16:9). So I basically went from 5.2 inches to 5.5 inches. I tried that before and 5.5 didn't feel overly large, just a bit larger. And I am fine with 6.5 as a result.
A 6.1 inch screen is basically 5-5.2 inch screen with longer vertical side (19:9, 20:9 instead of 16:9). Back in the day of 16:9 screens, 5-5.2 inches were considered the best diagonal as it was typically considered max width of a phone average person can hold and use with one hand. 5.5 is a bit harder to use with one hand but you can adapt. 6.5 feels like 5.5, 6.1 feels like 5.1, IMO. For me personally 6.5 is okay, 6.1 is a bit small (now that I've gotten accustomed to 6.5).
Here's a comparison of 6.1 to 5.1, ultrawide vs wide:
https://www.displaywars.com/6,1-inch-d%7B20x9%7D-vs-5,1-inch-16x9
As you can see, they have nearly identical height but different width (the comparison is performed in landscape orientation).
To sum it up:
"Ideal" screen diagonal has not changed if compared in 16x9 screen ratio. It did become longer, technically, but when compared in old ratio, the size hasn't changed at all.
walkman8, 22 Jan 2023Yeah, they are still too expensive for budget-minded people. In EU Pixel 6a cannot be found be... moreAmazon NL has the Pixel 6a for 370 right now and Amazon DE has it for 330. I personally know you can buy it in NL for as low as 300 some places if you check other channels.
The discrepancy between the poll and the market is easily explained, and it has nothing to do with a "vocal minority".
It's called cognitive dissonance. Your mind can't accept it's stupid and therefore convinces itself its brilliant because you've convinced others you want what's logical, yet secretly buy what's stupid.
People (me included) know they only need a midrange 6" phone, but their lizard brain wants EVERYTHING, it wants THE BEST. And so, they voted for what they SHOULD buy and SHOULD want, because it's all they NEED, yet they secretly buy the clout phone. I'll take myself as an example. I loved my S10e, and I don't notice any difference compared to my S22 Ultra, not even the camera. I don't use the s-pen just like most people don't. It's uncomfortable to hold and carry, especially in pockets. Whether I want to admit it or not, I bought it because I wanted to have the best, especially to show off, not because I needed it. And ever since I've been convincing myself I need it.
Same goes for short soccer moms picking up kids in huge SUVs. The entire car market is driven by vane, selfish, superficial desire.
Same goes for filtered and photoshopped images on social media, as if no one knows how you really look like in person.
Same goes for women saying they want a nice guy, but inevitably choosing a criminal (look up hybristophilia).
This poll merely shows how we're unable to come to terms with the fact we're not much better than what we think of others.
Anonymous, 22 Jan 2023Soon some here will be demanding samsung to make a 5" version of S Ultra with same cam se... moreIt's possible, just not really convenient.
Don't forget older Note models, the first Note had only 5.3" screen, which was considered massive next to 4.3" Galaxy S2.
Galaxy Note 10 from 2019 had 6.3" screen and had the same footprint as the smallest S21 from 2021.
Just 2 years were needed for the "Note" to become the smallest "S".
So yeah, we could have smaller "Ultra" models. Question is how well would they sell.
I kinda got used to 6.6" of Poco X4 GT. It's a massive slab, but eh, the selection of 6.1" models is so poor this restricts you to such narrow selection of devices it's no fun finding one.
Anonymous, 22 Jan 2023Iphone SE series does not sell well either. Far behind the other notched models. Mini fai... moreWhy do you keep telling lies?
Anonymous, 22 Jan 2023I don't agree . You're free to not agree. Go conduct a poll for the poor people you know, then find out.
nt, 22 Jan 2023In 2016 though, the lg v50 which has one of the bigger screens then only had a 5.7 inch screen... moreAnd that 5.7" size was biiig as at that time, no? Or why weren't they clamoring for 3.5-4.5 inchers, then? You know that there was a time 3.5" was regarded as the ideal size, right? You know that the OG Galaxy Note was called a phablet, right? You need to understand that size is relative.
People saw bigger, and people preferred bigger. And sorry, low-income earners who are more likely to want phones in that price range would largely gear towards phones with large displays, because they are also the ones most likely to use phones as their primary media device and, therefore, need mamooth battery backup. There's a reason why cheaper phones have larger battery capacity.
Funny thing is when some of you think that manufacturers don't do their research. That they don't see the numbers. That they are dumb. At the end of the day, phone makers want to sell. If small phones were selling relatively well when compared to larger ones, they'd have kept making them. Why wouldn't they?
vader, 22 Jan 2023Who cares about battery capacity? What matters is how long it actually lasts. iPhone 14 lasted... moreEveryone should care because how long a battery lasts depends on the capacity
The S22 is never beating the S22 plus in battery life and the plus is never beating the ultra
Soon some here will be demanding samsung to make a 5" version of S Ultra with same cam setup and pen
🤣😂
