Andre, 25 Jan 2023Yep, I chose an iPhone 13 over an S22 Ultra because it was so big and uncomfortable in my hand... moreDepends on which iphone 13 (the 13 pro max is actually even more uncomfortable with its sharp edges-same with the smaller models) the s22 is more manageable but this is what someone pointed out earlier-the smaller sizes are underpowered and have less to offer, so folks go for the big sizes and then complain that they are too big (lured by deals, promotions, getting the "max" "pro" "ultra" "gordita" monikers)
It's actually more about the balance of features and screen size. The newer "compact" versions always skip the flagship camera(as in 3-4 REAL cameras...the macro/depth cameras make me sick, especially in flagship phones). Because of that, I ended up getting bigger and bigger phones, that I can't use with one hand anymore(current is P30Pro with 6.5 inch curved screen, that I find too big)
Yep, I chose an iPhone 13 over an S22 Ultra because it was so big and uncomfortable in my hand that I just couldn't see myself getting used to it. Which is weird because I also held a 6'5 and 6'6 before that and they were quite nice.
Screen size really is really important along with the display tech (flat screen is good). I think 6.1 inch is a sweet spot for a compact phone. Anything beyond that is typically a larger phone. Wanted to buy the Pixel 7 pro series phone but the big size and curved display ruined it. I wish Google gives the option for small size pro series phone like Apple does.

There's a context, which is S10e vs S10, but you went over it to compare apples to oranges. Both S10e and S10 had minimal bezels (edge-to-edge display), so your point is invalid!
Your second point is taken, however: you have a width preference which the Galaxy S10 met. Okay!
wish Samsung bring their really phone from the mega branding or something cannot remembered the actual name but remembered that they have screen like 7"or so. 7.5" will be an ideal phone for me with the present way of minimal bezel
Funny how majority of voters are still a minority worldwide
The maximum smartphone size for me is 130mm/140mm
Unfortunately, this no longer exists (except the Iphone SE, 138mm)
... my Google Pixel 6a is not practical
(too heavy and bulky - especially with its "obligatory" silicon case ...)
:-/
I don't get the hate on 20:9 aspect ratios. It lets me fit more on split screen view. I think 19:9 to 20:9 is the ideal aspect ratio for me.

But for me ~70mm or less should be the width of the phone. So if there's a 6.5" phone with 70mm width, I would buy it.

Due to this they both are the same size for me. One phone has thick bezels and the other one slim bezels and curved edges. So even though they have different display sizes, they have almost similar frame sizes.
And about your comparison of 6.2 verses 6.5" phones. I had already mentioned in my post which was truncated. I mentioned that even if S10 was a tad larger, like 6.2" I would have went with S10e. But in this case they are the same width, which was the criteria for choosing compact phone.

I just noticed my post was truncated. To be fair I agree with your opinion where we might have to tradeoff one feature for other, for eg larger size for larger battery. But that's not what I meant here.
What I mentioned was "it's 5% larger diagonally, but only .75%(

But we don't have that. In 2023 we're so limited in options in that area. I still use my Sony Z5 Compact! I'll never buy a 6.7" monstrosity.
How about making a poll about how much battery should a 6.1inch screen phone have, and don't include anything less than 4300mAh, because that's not gonna last, and Samsung don't understand that, and that the S23 is gonna suck because it'll have a 6.1inch screen, paired with a 3900mAh, that's only good enough for a 5.5 inch screen. So tired of waiting for a vanilla S model with a 4300mah or more. 25W is laughable too.

Manufacturers see the sales' numbers and make decisions out of those. The truth is most people prefer big screens. There's a reason why Apple stopped making the mini version - it didn't sell that well.
I also prefer small phones, mostly because they fit inside zipped pockets of bike clothing, however I know that it's gonna be harder for me to find one in the future.
I prefer a smaller phone like Pixel 6a. The problem is if you want the best camera, you're forced to buy a giant phone.
