It depends. My wife likes the iphone mini. She has small hands, she is small and doesn't have big pockets or carry a large bag. I have the S22 Ultra and for me, that is relatively the same size as the iPhone mini to my wife. I have a hand span of 29cm vs my wife which is only 12.5cm. I am 1m98cm tall (6ft 6) vs 1m58 (5ft 1).
So manufactures should make small powerful devices as per the larger ones. I understand battery impact but they can make them slightly thicker in depth to compensate, I don't think that has as much impact as the width and length. If they just made, mini, medium, and large I think that works.
6.1 with a tad wider screen
"6" and below" bc my 6.1" Pixel 6A is a little too large for my medium sized hands. Being able to use my phone with one hand feels really convenient to me so if I could have a small phone which would have good battery life and camera, that'd be ideal

I always thought I like medium size screens, but with every phone my screen got bigger and I always started to prefer it.

Nothing beats the 5.4 incher. The iPhone mini is true compact but it's iOS so I can't use it cause I prefer android and the Zenfone 9 isn't available here. Pixel 4a is discontinued.
S22 isn't really compact at 6.1 inches. What are my options then ? iPhone SE again iOS
Damn it. No small phone that I can buy

4.7 to 5.4 should be the perfect size for a mini phone which I prefer.
Brands can launch 3 version of flagship phones: mini , normal, max.
It's the WIDTH that is primary, screen size can vary within the width. 68mm width is ideal.
also the screen ratio is important that 21:9 from Sony is very unusual and ineffective is like watching through a fence. It's good for games only. 16:9 was the perfect ratio.
aaronwt, 16 Jan 2023Because the area of the screen is not one percent larger. It's higher that one percent.Ohhhhh I'm sorry, my exaggeration wasn't exact. 😱 7%. Happy now? Jesus.
I mean this isn't 2014 where you had the Note 4 with a 45% larger display than the iPhone 6.

Samsung should combine the plain and plus into 1 and offer 2 models instead. Call it Pro and keep the Ultra. Size it 6"3 keep the specs of plus.
It depends on the size of the hand :)
But for using with 1 hand, 6 inch is enough.
My opinion.
I can't put anythings bigger than 6.1" in my Jeans' pocket. That's the main reason.
I don't think screen size is the best way to measure this, the actual dimensions of the phone would be better. I find my Samsung s10e a bit too tall at 142mm so I'd go with around 135mm as the best size and the biggest screen size they can fit on there.
Last week I was riding when my phone fell off the pocket and a car ran over it. Had my phone been smaller it would've fit better. Thanks to brick phones, thanks to slippery smooth backs, carrying them is a whole task. Now I have to carry it inside a backpack looking like a total fuol 💀
The aspect-ratio matters. 5 inch with 4:3 ratio: Strange but would be fine with that. 6.1 inch in a 23:9 aspect ratio: hell no, far too narrow! I need space for the keyboard, and the taller the devices are, the more the screen size increases without giving mor space to type.
