I mean, leaks are not that big are they? There's going to be a Pixel 8 and a Pixel 9 and maybe a new Pixel a-series. And new Tensor processor. My take, there is going to be a Pixel 10, maybe they come up with a fancy name like Pixel X and guess what, new Tensor processor.

Maybe i am alone with that, but i am desperately waiting for a Pixel Pro with a flat display.
I skipped the 7 because it's already too small for me.
6,7" is perfect for me, but i can't live with curves...
And i didn't like the odd brightness control of Pixels, where your slider has to hover arount 75%, where it is on 40% with SAMSUNG Galaxy for me...

We lost the likes of T.I. OMAP, ST-Ericsson,... moreThis. It's why I'm glad MediaTek is starting to gain traction in the US. With the newer Dimensity 1050/8200/9200 supporting mmWave, Qualcomm is going to have to step up in terms of value.
Shame it feels like only Motorola is supporting this. Had LG or HTC stuck around, I'm sure they'd try MediaTek to keep the price lower.

Although I agree anything above 6-6.1inch today is far too big.

We lost the likes of T.I. OMAP, ST-Ericsson, Nvidia Tegra, Huawei Kirin, and basically Samsung Exynos. And we don't see the alternatives much, like RockChip, AMLogic, Allwinner, VIA, etc etc. We only have three competitors; Unisoc Tiger on the low-end, MediaTek Dimensity in the midrange, and Qualcomm Snapdragon for the high-end.
So if Google can design a good SoC, and Samsung can produce it, that's a win. The other point is that; if Google controls it then they maybe able to maintain the drivers and kernel. That means devices with those chipsets can get longterm software support, such as 5+ years. This is in-contrast to Snapdragon chips which are very good, but the drivers and kernels are made/pushed from Qualcomm and they stop supporting it after 3 years. The MediaTek chips are even worse.
With that said, there is such thing as "too much" competition, which can be worse for consumers. Too many options usually leads to worse products, due to the compromises. So I believe Google should only develop a single chipset per year, support it for 5 years, and have it on a handful of devices. They should avoid the luxury market (USD $900 or more), and should place themselves firmly in the high-end market. I think a Small, Medium, Large portfolio would do fine. Or you could call it the 720p, 1080p, 1440p lineup. Or the Solo-Cam, Dual-Cam, or Tri-Camera lineup. Or call it the USD $500, $600, $700 price lineup.
...what I'm saying is focus on quality, not quantity of options. Less is More.

I don't think $499 is a problem for the series personally. $350 for the Pixel 4a was by far the best value, but personally I would consider the $449 Pixel 6a to be the second best value. The performance is significantly better than every other Pixel a phone. $499 with the same SoC and cameras as the main phone would be totally fine. But they should really move toward a glass back IMO.

If the Pixel 7a is less successful, it will be because it is bigger than the Pixel 6a. The Pixel 6a is the perfect size for me and for some it is already too big. Dropping the a-series would be a big mistake if they don't offer a smaller variant every year and keep the price in the affordable range.
