geordie81, 08 Dec 2022so 2 things are likely to come from this, firstly more jobs for local economy which is a good ... moreThe sad part is they are already ridiculously over priced. There's no justified reason to be passing that cost off to us....but they will.

so 2 things are likely to come from this, firstly more jobs for local economy which is a good thing of course.
Secondly, the cost of these chips is no doubt going to sky rocket the cost of a smartphone, by how much? I don't know, But is 20% an unrealistic amount given labour costs across Asia vs the USA?
I don't know enough about chip production costs, but their average chips are about 20% more expensive then the direct competition, and due to rise another 6% for 2023, but thats for its current production lines, will the US production be able to absorb that cost while paying significantly more for everything and keeping phones the same?

And yes it would be bad to pay more when what you get for you pay has already increasingly become inexcusable as it is. The price is already not justified let alone after a move like this that just sucks more money out of pure greed.
                  Try to logic next time.

Nope. This isn't a West vs East thing but more like US vs China. Rest of countries have nothing to do there

Why are they building a chip plant in the desert - doesn't semiconductor fabrication use a lot of water? Why not the great lakes region or somewhere that isn't experiencing constant drought?

I think this has implications with the suspected China reunification of Taiwan, thus why Biden is showing his face. A convenient way to keep the Chinese from having sole control of the best semiconductor production in the world. A way to begin to fight back in the up and coming trade war between the East and the West.

This can only translate into better chips, better quality products and management, better smartphones. So what if the price will be higher? Wouldn't you pay more for better products? I would.
Seems to me that a lot of people here complaining are just trolls or competition workers.
I just hope that they'll make chips for android also in the future.
