Elon is not even from the US. He came from South Africa, studied hard, worked hard and due to his brilliance, he has accomplished incredible things and gained incredible wealth. You are free to do the same thing as him. There's no sense in blaming him for succeeding. It's better to focus on your own success.

Anonymous, 03 Nov 2022Yes, verification isn't mandatory. However, I believe that the point that person made is ... moreYes because verification will cut down on bots, we see that many famous people lost followers, that's because thousands of them were bots.

Paying 8 monthly is ridiculous for many people who live from less a 1000 euros a month from which 50-70% goes on casual bills like rent ,water, gas, electricity, insurance etc.
But if its a way how to erase those so called bots i dont mind.
I dont have twitter and when a facebook will ask even a single euro for having an account there for next month i will abbandon that acc too.
Rather to live like a caveman but with a lot of freedom than being a covardly sponsor of someone who have much more than my self or people nearm me earn in thoustands of their lives.

Like instagram, it is a request that you make to get yourself verified. It doesn't matter how many follower you have. If you are well known, i mean if you are being search a lot through other platform or whatever you may be eligible for a verified mark. You may have 100k follower and still not verified.

He should've just took inspiration from YouTube's approach, which is meeting certain milestones (e.g. having more than 10K followers, good engagement score, etc.)

Wait, he actually bought twitter? I remember hearing he wanted to pull out of the deal. Guess he really ended up buying it, ew...

Also, I don't really agree with this new approach, it seems wrong. The way YouTube and Twitch does the "verified checkmark" is how it should've been, where you have to reach certain milestones (e.g. 100K subs on YT). Elon should've at least done it that way.

Paying a subscription for the checkmark means that being verified is now contingent on socioeconomic status. I'm sure most famous and distinguished people have the money to afford Blue, but what about people whose fame or worth is unrelated to the money they have in the bank. I'm sure this is a big middle finger to young growing artists or musicians who are broke.

So basically, the blue checkmark isn't a privilege anymore. It's a commodity. Wtf elon.
