David, 28 Oct 2022Amazon has been making Kindles since before Huawei even entered the consumer market! It is not about who produced it first it is about patents who owns it. Maybe Amazon did start to produce it first but part of technology used in manufacturing is own by Huawei. Have a look at patents cases in the United States Google vs Sonos.
Not to mention patent troll cases that are killing open source project's.

We all know what happens when a foreign company takes a chinese company to court in china... the foreign company loses. So don't let huawei walk all over anyone outside of china.

blue, 27 Oct 2022Amazon is the one creating e-ink, not crippled Huawei.Since Huawei applies for an immense number of patents every year, it wouldn't be a surprise that there are a few patents from them that Amazon (accidentally or intentionally) used without a proper licensing agreement made between the two parties. Amazon has been making e-readers before Huawei started their own, but that doesn't mean there's no possibility that Amazon would be infringing their patents.

One company shouldn't be using another company's technology without paying a price for it - the same goes for Nokia 5G patent lawsuits against Oppo. If the court decides that Amazon has indeed infringed the patent, then so be it.

Anonymous, 27 Oct 2022LOL, huawei? www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2019/01/28/the-us-just-charged-huawei-wi... moreThat case has been settled but the drama for Huawei continues because they continue to step on their own feet. The US just charged two Chinese nationals for trying to bribe a "U.S. law enforcement official" into sharing secrets about their ongoing prosecution of a major Chinese firm. Mind boggling.

At this point everyone is grounded in their beliefs towards the sanctions so I'm not writing to change anyone's mind. My position is simple. If you're constantly being accused of stealing from the cookie jar, just stay away from the kitchen.

That said, I don't blame them for suing. They've taken so many blows it's time they try to hit back.

What is it with this ignorant mindset of people. The ones who think that if we did not have it, it does not exist at all. Plus why are you guys so absent minded over how patents work?
Patents are made & acquired by companies. It does not require a proper product launch neither do they have to be the best seller of the patented product in order to call it theirs. The first to acquire rights to the patents owns them. Simple as that

By the comments I see almost no one knows what patents are. Big tech companies always suing each other. Huawei and SolarEdge have recently signed and agreement to share their patents (all related to solar inverters), after 5+ years of nonsense lawsuits. Amazon sues Microsoft for their cloud related patents, then Microsoft sues IBM, IBM sues Oracle, and Oracle sues Amazon. Nothing new

I cannot believe I've seen a Chinese company sue another company over patents, especially in China.

Last time I checked, they didn't care about infringing on patents in China, did anything change recently?

Suing Amazon over e-ink patents, when Kindle is with us for nearly two decades? That's a crime.
