What is up with all of these Snapdragon 778G phones, when there is already the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1?

Why don’t the OEMs use the new SoC???

Anonymous, 22 Jul 2022But the nothing phone is better Nothing has lots of bugs. Still not solved with first software update. Nothing costs a lot more than this phone. So doesn't make sense to compare.

Seeing that it has Energy (or Vitality) in the name, I was expecting at least 6-7k mAh, as the name suggests long life. But it is an ordinary phone, like many others.

Just Check how many Phones were sold with sd 690 and how popular sd 695 is.

No point adding those premium features in midrange, people wont pay premium for midrange or lowend soc.

Hemedans, 21 Jul 2022But sd 695 is way cheaper than 690, they made small sacrifices and provide great soc for $200 ... moreNot really, they're limiting the capabilities of these SoCs by not providing the necessary drivers to support such features. For instance, SD810 from 2015 can already handle Sony's 4K display technology, but such a thing is not available for newer SD 700 series SoCs because they are "apparently" not powerful enough to handle it. I seriously doubt that a SD730G isn't more powerful than the SD810 for it not to be able to support 4K@60Hz native resolution.

Heck, some newer Snapdragon 400 series SoCs like the 480 is said to be limited to just 1080p@60fps maximum video recording resolution, when even the Snapdragon 801 from 2013 is much less powerful and could already do 4K@30fps video recording along with 1080p@60fps.

The Snapdragon 695 seems to be more like a lite-version of the Snapdragon 750G, and the Snapdragon 680 seems to be the side-grade of the Snapdragon 665 instead.
                          Yeah it's confusing, I know,

Early snapdragon 7xx chips support QHD screen, but later chips (except 765) are limited to 1080p.

                            805 can handle 4K screen, 808 cannot.

690 has HDR screen, USB C 3.1, 4K recording while 695 does not. Also faster internet speed than 695.

680 seems to be worse than 670/675.
