-Trix-, 13 Jul 2022https://www.boredpanda.com/wedding-photographers-compare-iphone-11-professional-camera-photos-... moreThank you for this. I just couldn't be bothered to post links.
People live in perpetual echo chambers, constantly haunted and tormented by their cognitive dissonance. You might as well try to explain to a pig how to fly.

Your post just shows what's been known for almost a decade now. There's countless tests and comparisons one can look up, whether YouTube or otherwise...that is, if one actually cares about the truth.

So basically 99% of the quality + a small computer attached to it, for the same price (or even less) lol.

Thing is, the smartphone shots are good enough for most people to not invest in the time and money required to get even better results from prosumer or professional cameras.

-Trix-, 13 Jul 2022https://www.boredpanda.com/wedding-photographers-compare-iphone-11-professional-camera-photos-... moreSo the phone does not take technically better images, just more "nice looking" images. That's what phone photography is about, making pleasing and nice looking images far from reality. But as for image noise, detail capture, dynamic range, depth of focus, zoom range... all is in favor of dedicated cameras.
Just the possibility of having a true zoom from almost any focal lenght possible is something a phone can never have. Not even Sony with their zoom telephoto camera. But I know that people degraded so much that they don't really care about quality, just quantity.

Phone cameras wont be anywhere near a mirrorless camera, when you can get the same sort of results like using a full frame with a 85mm prime lens or similar then we can start making them sort of crazy comments.
I will happily stay with my Full frame Nikon and know it will just work + having the ability to use it for just about anything and know the battery wont just die on me :) Once you can just leave a Mirrorless camera on rather than turn it off and on to save the battery I might change my mind.

And this was already two years ago, camera quality since that have gone up a lot.

Also i think my comment went way over you head, i’m talking in big picture. How close phone camera quality is to DSLR and adding the fact that you have your phone pretty much ALWAYS with you without carrying some bulky camera is pretty incredible and camera companies are in very big trouble and it’s just a fact which they can’t turn https://www.statista.com/statistics/799526/shipments-of-digital-singe-lens-reflex-cameras-worldwide/

-Trix-, 13 Jul 2022Best smartphone cams are actually surprisingly close in quality with DSLR, you can find endles... moreThey look comparable to DSLRs/professional-grade proper digital cameras because the youtubers (I don't even want to call them 'reviewers' because they simply aren't, based on what they're doing) are comparing the straight-out JPEG shots from the proper cameras, that have minimal to almost no image processing enhancements done, to the heavily processed files from smartphone cameras.
If the proper cameras' results were to be processed accordingly to improve them, they can be even better than smartphone cameras for sure (in terms of sensor's natural dynamic range, white balance, resolution, image integrity, color gradation, noise, etc.)
That is just the JPEGs, how much better do you think the RAW photos are when properly processed? It's miles better for sure, and no amount of software processing will help make the smartphone images look as good as the results from the proper cameras that involve little to no software editing whatsoever (except of course when editing the RAW files, which is exactly how it should be done anyway).

It's all physics, there's no way a tiny sub-1" sensor could gather more light than a proper M4/3, APS-C, or full-frame sensor. With your logic, if smartphone cameras are really that close already to proper cameras in terms of shear quality, then we should be seeing professionals using these phones instead for their professional works, because why wouldn't they want the convenience of not having to carry around bulky camera gears when smartphone cameras are "supposedly" almost just as good already but much more compact, right?
Once you see results from proper cameras, your perspective will change. Suddenly, all smartphone camera results would look low-quality to you, even those from high-end flagships.

Bebochekov, 13 Jul 2022You can change the battery yourself, and the SD card , plus they take way better photos than a... moreUhmm, everyone already knows at this point that the batteries of these cameras are user-replaceable, but doing it every now and then would be a huge inconvenience for professional photographers. Shooting sport games for about 12 hours would require at least 5 to 10 battery swaps throughout the shooting session if these mirrorless cameras are to have heavy processing stuff to do in the background while the photographer is shooting photos. And we still haven't tackled the thermal constraints on the camera's processor if we were to have such intensive task on the camera. Shooting 8K 30fps or 4K 120fps on these cameras with high bit rate for at least 10-bit color already causes them to rise up in temperature, now you'd want the camera to perform software processing as it does this, knowing that what you're asking for is a processor-intense task??

It just don't make sense to me at all. I'm not against progress or anything, but this suggestion is ridiculously absurd as it stands today with the current available technology that we have now.

I can understand why Mirrorless camera is more popular than DSLR camera because of its compact body but both of them can still beat smartphone photo quality all day long, and that's coming from someone who used to own a Sony NEX-3N Mirrorless camera before selling it in December 2018 in favour of Microsoft Lumia 950 XL. Now, I'm eyeing the quirky-yet-brilliant Sony QX1 detachable APS-C camera.
