Adobe's Enhance Details and DxO's DeepPRIME do a great job at eliminating these artifacts, while the latter also excels at reducing noise while preserving textures. Using AI to "guess" the colour of each pixel from B&W photos might be fun, but in the end, it's not capable of producing pixel-level accurate colors that are anywhere near usable for professional use as of now.

Many B&W to colour Algorithms are doing a superb job. It isn't exactly impossible to nearly perfect coloured pics from B&W ones. Plus instead of a ToF sensor they could have a 12MP colour which helps with colour information, and detail merging or something else.

That's because these phones heavily manipulate the image AFTER combining frames (i.e. post processing). Vivo and Google provide an option to output stacked RAW files and the details are rendered in a very natural way.

Compact cameras already... moreThe slower readout speed is a nuisance when stacking frames (unless you're using DOL-HDR, where the sensor can start capturing the next frame before the current one has been fully read out), but the biggest contributing factor for the processing time is.. surprise surprise.. the number of pixels being processed. Not only there are more pixels to be stacked, but also the alignment of frames itself has to be more precise too, due to the amount of fine details being captured. Average consumers are not willing to wait for 2-5 seconds just to capture more detailed daylight photos.

Actually you may never know because Sony was pointing to HM1 in the presentation slide, not the newer HM3. Not to mention HM3 already supports the aforementioned DOL-HDR.
@Marorun lol Your 2020 Samsung phone does Super Slow @720p, not really a feat to brag about. I think you need to look further as my 2018 (yes 2018 and still works perfectly!) Xperia XZ2 has Super Slow @1080p! The Xperia XZ premium in early 2017 has the same specs as your 2020 phone lol
I bet the IMX700 1/1.28 50MP is at least as good and likely better. The latest gen phones with smaller ~1/1.5 sensors don't perform as well as the gen before it.
Meanwhile Sony continues "good tradition" of putting older, underdog camera sensors on their own, severely overpriced Xperia flagship phones....

Sticking a poor quality lens Infront of a tiny pixel dense sensor will always produce poor information. Garbage in garbage out. AI can do a lot but we are a long way off from the real time processing required to beat optical physics

Strange my S20 + can do 4k 60 fps movies ( 64 mp sensor )
It can also do super slow motion at 960 fps ( 720P ) or 1080p 240 fps where iphone max out at 240 fps in 1080p.
Why do you guys lies so much all the time is beyond me...
As usual, the tech behind and quality of Sony sensors are pretty damn perfect, but I wonder what device will utilize it to the full potential. Considering later development and brands pushing / some giving up on mobile photography, I would not be surprised if Vivos next gen uses this sensor or even better.
More pixels matter to a point, it's not black and white, same way size of the sensor matters, lenses matter big time, especially on a small device etc.

Computational photography stacks ... moreFrame stacking has been used way before Google used it with Nexus 6P. Compact cameras already had this tech. You do not need more megapixels for this.
More pixels = slower sensor scan = worse for frame stacking
Go to photography websites and see amount of people making critics on possibilities of full frames with 100MP.
Now read how much they bash phones with 108 and 200MP.
This is why high megapixel mode is not default even for daylight shots. Google blocks the 50 and 48MP modes (wide and periscope) because would not be able to stack like 16 frames of 50MP.
As my example to other user days ago, HM3 takes 0.1s to scan when 108MP is used while 0,033s for 12MP. Gonna stack 12, 15 or 16 frames this way, with 0.1s per frame?
