Sony IPSLCD, 28 Apr 2022I'd prefer to buy an IPS LCD smartphone. The sole newest option for IPS LCD-type display Sony phones are Xperia Ace II from 2021 and probably the upcoming Xperia Ace III, and those are exclusive to the Japanese market, leaving all current global Xperia phones in the market pure OLED-type display since Xperia transition to OLED since 2018 with XZ3.

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2022I love Sony mobile, but this is probably the main disappointment to me. How can your $1200 fl... moreAnd exactly this is why I haven't get a song phone in years. Update cycle sucks even back then when I had Xperia XZ1. Note 9 in comparison was getting monthly updates, and still receiving updates till now (nearly 4years since released).
Sony biggest fail, aside from the slow availability, is the short update support (2years) and what makes it worse the delay roll out of said update (like u mentioned).
For the same price I'd get a Samsung with a clearly stated 5 years of support. Not like Sony who we have to guess how long the phone would be supported.

why put 3 cameras to Xperia 10 IV? Just use one lens similar to pixel 4A, iphone se 2022 and do the software right. I had Xperia 10 III and it was worst camera setup ever, Xperia V III and I III for me were insanely too expensive and risky, Sony has to understand that they are in level of no name manufacturers right now and in market we can buy ihone 12/13 for 550-700EUR, you cant cant ask more than that.

updates suck, but at least you can unlock the bootloader (they'll remove proprietary stuff) and also they provide SDKs for AOSP so the phone can live much longer

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2022Sony does not send device to dxomark and pay costs of tests. . Will never be top10 doing this... moreBecause Sony always acting as a premium brand but apart being overpriced just like apple they will never be a premium brand.
The only premium brand i ever accepted and existed was Vertu.
Compared to that we have just low cost or huigh cost brands but no premium.
Only extra credit for Sony is fact they are made in Japan not in china, India or Vietnam like Samsung or Apple which also cost fortune but are nothing special just very overpriced non premium brands.

Exyvia, 28 Apr 2022True, limited to the technology of the time - it doesn't have phase detection autofocus. ... moreAgreed. The '4K' resolution on Xperia 1 series is called 'CinemaWide 4K', a standard SONY made SPECIFICALLY FOR its OWN SMARTPHONE displays. Since this display is not capable of showing a DCI-4K video at its true native resolution, a sslight subpixel sampling process in fact blurs the details, meaning the final output would be never as sharp as what you would see on a proper 4K panel. Sony's terminology is ambiguous or very confusing at best.

Which is why Sony loves to market it as 'worlds first' with a giant asterisks.

Especially like the 4k Screen is marketed as 4k 'cinema wide' - creating it's own 4k category of 3840 by 1688.

None of the updates fixed any of those issues and by 6 months in the security updates were lagging.
Add to that the incredibly fragile anodised finish and it really was a poor device overall.
                            Never again.

It just now, at the end of April, updated from the January security patch to the March security patch. The lagging security patches hardly matter because the phone still randomly unlocks itself. This originally "US model" is still being called a Verizon phone by tech support because it malfunctions on all other carriers.
