It's not just youtube. Since covid kicked in and lockdowns got introduced, spamers became more active than ever. It's literally everywhere, every major social platform is infested.

The sad and funny side at the same time is the amount of misspellings in the comments of these annoying people.
They should make a little more effort to convince the GSMArena audience

That's OK; ThioJoe (a great YouTuber who focuses on tech) has a script and a program for that.

[deleted post]The Apple part is totally not true, it's clearly you aren't here for a long time. 70% of the time it's the Android article and Apple articles are most popular here because of the haters. Now again, it's up to them will they reply or not. Every site is different, stop expecting same from everyone and have some respect.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2022The big problem is you, what kind off editor and reviews are you, that you never participating... moreIt's best that the editors stay neutral. If editors join in the discussion, I dare bet that not everyone will accept the editors' opinions. Toxic commenters and trolls will engage in an endless debate with anyone not agreeing with them just to feed their fragile ego. These people will fling accusation of being biased at the editors because they can't accept fact.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2022Maybe you can use the program created by YouTube user 'ThioJoe'. It might not be the... moreI second this one. It's not an easy or accurate solution, but at least it will help reducing the real spam comments and you can also report them as spam. LTT posted a video about this a few months back I think.

Youtube is not so much "not caring enough" but "giving zero shits", precisely. Many of the obviously spamming comments are 90%-100% literally identical text - it would be trivial for Youtube to auto-flag and hide these for channel owner review (if the owner wants to bother at all), simply based on the large number of messages that are not only identical on one video but actually across most of Youtube as a whole. Except they clearly think it's someone else's problem...

SamsungRules, 24 Apr 2022there is nothing they can do about it, just like every other platform Facebook is riddled with... moreActually there are things that can be done.
Such as stopping url entry/hyperlinks, preventing identical usernames replying to comments, and only giving people higher privileges when their accounts have been verified, etc etc. On top of that, they could use Big Data, and train algorithms to fish for spam, and have a human on the other end look at it and Click Yes which will Mass Delete all that spam.

However, comments/spam are not much of an issue with YouTube.
...the real problem is copyright infringement.
Many individuals and small channels are getting their contents censored by Google who are politically-motivated, or trampling individual rights to protect large corporations. To make matters worse, they are getting their channels deleted, their content stolen, and their videos monetized by scammers and companies. Whilst European Union is more organised and fair, the YouTube platform is based in USA and is suffers from their gross mismanagement with USA laws, Fair Use, and DMCA.

There's a reason people say "Peak YouTube" was back in 2012, before they had issues with copyright, monetisation, spam, and Ads.

GSMArena very lazy reply comments at YouTube Being lazy at replying to comments doesn't make them the reason why the spams exist tho. And replying to comments for what? Everything they get to explain is in the videos/reviews. What is the point of replying?

Spam comes in various genres, unfortunately enough. It can range from illicit financial gains (ie scamming others as per the article), to politics, and even playing on the fear of people. The unrest in Eastern Europe and COVID respectively are the big ones these days, and only 16 months ago it was the US elections which has tapered off a bit. The freedom of speech aspect is a crucial and critical right for everyone, but people need to release that freedom of speech does not mean freedom of repercussions. Everything has consequences, and people don't seem to realise this (and just selfishly opt for me-me-me).
