It will throttle and give less performance which makes upgrading not worth it. Two generations of chips will make it worth it otherwise its a waste of money.

              1. Using same arch then get highly overclocked this make the heat and power draw high, the snapdragon 8 gen 1 have new arch which solve the problem

              2. Samsung maf process , this is still considerate as a problem we will never know unless benchmark is out

              3. Cortex X-1 is like cortex a57 , its have high thermal and power draw in mind which focused more on notebook class performance , the X-2 design solve the issue with the 35% sustained performance

Overall the snapdragon 8 gen 1 should likely wont overheat like 888 but wont have good sustained performance level as 865

A November 1 ... moreFyi, only Samsung and seemingly Vivo were able to perfect the cooling for the SD888 while the rest are having thermal issues like Xiaomi and Realme. Xiaomi's Mi11 for instance had issues with fried WiFi chips due to extreme heat coming from the SD888. Even the Mi11T Pro limits the performance of the SD888 to avoid any thermal issues so the the chip is really a burner on its own. Hoping this won't be the case with the new Gen architecture.

Snapdragon 888's issues for me hasn't been overheating but throttling. A November 1 security update fixed it. My GameCube games have ran smooth every single time and I can play them for hours. Before, might be 20 minutes before it starts to lag from the throttling.

These gains are nonsense and just for techtubers to have something to talk about. Every year is like this. Of course we'll see gains. Are we supposed to get worse SoCs every year? But you'll hear 20% faster but 30% more efficiency. Doesn't getting faster cancel out efficiency? Back to a stalemate in battery life.

Surely, this will be enough to cook an egg from your phone. The SD888 was smoking and cooking how much more this powerful beast. These performance gains are non-sense if you won't be able to sustain it due to thermal throttling.

I think the best question here is the bottle neck, between the software integration as most mobile software is unable to utilize the full potential of present Soc.

All these fancy cores, yet majority of Android phones on the market will still be using ancient A75 and A55 cores.
Any snapdragon 8 announcements have become boring since it will only be used on very few flagship phones. If Qualcomm wants to become competitive, bring those new cores to the 7 and 6 class chips. Apple is better since they use their flagship chips from previous years as their “mid range.” Qualcomm always discontinue their older flagship chips, leaving the mid range old scraps with the same ancient A75 and A55 cores for years.
