That new camera sensor is why the Pixel 6 is considered, by a few at least. Nobody cares about Tensor. If the same old camera sensor is used on the 6a it will be a flop. Besides, August '22 is too far distant.

SA466, 24 Nov 2021No, iPhone 12 Pro has a bigger sensorNope, same size sensor. 1.4 microns pixel 12 MP. We are talking PRO, not PRO MAX. It is 12 ok?
Why use such older sensors in 2021? It is just 1/2.55" in size.
At least use a 1/2" sensor which is also available in budget devices around $200. Surely Pixel 6a will be much more expensive than this.

Hello Life, 24 Nov 2021lol iphones still use 12mp sensor and pushes the best nigh time shotsYeah that's what i don't get it. Pixel 5 has bad auto mode night shots, yet Iphone 12 Pro with same sensor size and pixel size can take better lowlight ones. Not to mention, The night mode on Iphone is twice as fast than Pixel's night sight. Maybe the chipset and tuning matters a lot. Even Iphone 12 Pro with tiny sensor has much better lowlight video than S21 Ultra large sensora

In lowlight, it is super dark and soft yet noisy. I don't mind an accurate photo, but it should be sharp and noise free. But Pixel 5 isn't that case. In pixel 6, i will always turn night sight off cause i don't like daytime look at night photos. But for an tiny 12 Mp sensor, no way

Interesting choice
Pixel 6 is already reasonably priced. I think 6a will be a great value.
It's a bummer they'll be using the same old camera sensors once again. But I'm sure the Tensor SoC will beef up the image processing & video quality a tad bit.
ABF Media, 24 Nov 2021Do you understand default settings can be changed by user and plenty of people do change it?
... moreSee Danny winget's camera comparison of Pixel 6 Pro, Iphone 13 Pro max and s21 Ultra.
While results are excellent on all. The experience of taking night photos are best on Iphone
Iphone = 1- 3 seconds, instant processing
S21 u = 2 - 4 seconds, 2 seconds processing
Pixel 6 Pro = 4 - 7 seconds, 3+ seconds of processing
With iPhone and galaxy, you can adjust night mode duration directly when you are shooting in the viewfinder. So every shot can be easily changed the duration.
Meanwhile your solution? No offense but it is dumb and not worth. You need to go to settings, advanced settings, then go to developers option, then change it with all those hardness. What's worse is that this only affects Shooting time, not processing time. Also, this applies for every shot. So in extreme lowlight, photos will be horrible. In Iphone and Samsung, it is easily done from the viewfinder.
Even from default settings right out of the box, Iphone and Samsung gives a much better night mode experience
ABF Media, 24 Nov 2021Do you understand default settings can be changed by user and plenty of people do change it?
... moreSure people do change photo aspect ratio and video resolution and frame rates but who will change the number of framea in night mode? It is buried deep in the setttings and how many will be willing? You are talking like that because you do that. Most people don't even change settings. They just point and shoot. Also, Iphone default is 3 seconds max night mode default, though you can adjust it to 10 seconds, and that's easily done by adjusting the slider in the viewfinder.
What about your useless and hard solution? Changing frames of night sight? That's not easy to do. First you need to go to settings, advanced settings, then developer options, then tap night sight, then set the number of frames. How many will do that?????
It is much worse compared to Iphone's solution.
Pixel = 4 - 6 seconds for 1 shot, plus processing time = 8-10 seconds.
Iphone = 1 - 3 seconds, can be adjusted easily by slider.
ABF Media, 24 Nov 2021Do you understand default settings can be changed by user and plenty of people do change it? ... moreI know, but I Am comparing default settings of Apple night mode vs Pixel night sight. Not adjusted one
This is excellent news for me. I don't use the camera for anything other than to take pictures of which brand of TP/mayo/frozen pizza for next time I am in the grocery store b/c I don't remember things b/c I am getting older.
I had a camera back in the 80s and I actually had some measure of innate talent, an eye for composition. However, I have no passion for photography whatsoever, it was music. So instead of having a hobby as a fairly decent photographer, I have a hobby as a terrible guitarist. I have been the world's worst guitarist for over four decades now, but I love it. And you know what, guitar cabinet sims that cost 20 bucks top, well, a 3+K Fractal Audio setup is absolutely better, but unless you are a professional touring / recording musician, it's not 2980 bucks better.
So I'll take the processor, everything top tier except the camera. So I'm looking forward to this. I am a huge fan of Google's pixel lineup from the beginning, I know iPhones are great, but I am biased in favor of android.
Yay! Bring on the 6a for the pepaw patrol.

For example if the camera app opens up with photo mode in the viewfinder, they can very well switch to video inside the app, they just don't stop using video camera or stay in photo mode because of default settings.

You don't need to be super techy to change a simple setting like choosing video resolution or portrait mode or some thing else.
Stop acting like people can't even choose between photo and video.
You make it sound like they are so tech-illiterate, they just point and shoot without knowing which mode(photo/video) is on.
