Most games work like they should and use API too.
You can't accuse OEM to provide bad API as both Benchmarks and games work properly.
GPU emulation core is probably more involved (link from native 3DS's GPU and proprietary features to Android's 3D API). And yes it's an hard work.
When Mali G77mp9 on D1000+ works better than G77mp11 on Exynos, obviously the problem isn't Mali.
About emulation and "freelance" developement (Custom ROM)...the problem when you've tons guys who work on Qualcomm, you've got fewer on Mediatek.
This comes from past...
When Mediatek reached only tiny brands from Shenzhen (Umi, Zopo, Elephone...) on which it was impossible to find sources or entry level from bigger ones (Sony, HTC) no one care about!
During years, "freelance" developement nearly didn't exist on Mediatek (there were some exceptions like M.A.D team)
Improvements are really faster since Xiaomi released Redmi Note 8 Pro (first real best seller with Mediatek's). It's really impressive.
But you can't do in 1 year and a half on Mediatek what was done in maybe 8 years on Qualcomm...especially with less people, it's such an hard work!

if they make better drivers for mali gpu then it can compete with adreno. benchmark wont tell you the truth about drivers, try anything with open GL you will see adreno perform much better compare to Mali of same category.

Anonymous, 22 Apr 2021Redmi note 8 pro disagree with ugo youtube and check 3ds emulation for redmi note 8 pro, official version is almost unplayable while citra mmj work better with mediatek but still there are lags and stutter, same soc category from Qualcomm like sd 720G and 730G play 3ds smoothly.

Play Pubg with same setting on iQoo Z1 and Galaxy S20+...
The first with Mali G77mp9
The second with Mali G77mp11
After a few minutes, S20+ falls under 50fps
IQoo still provides 60fps
Run Antutu 3 times in a row on Galaxy S21 with Mali G78mp14, GPU score falls under the one on last year's Dimensity 1000+ with G77mp9!!!

123456789, 21 Apr 2021Many people saying that mediatek is horrible at emulation/emulators, is really just living at ... moreAm active in many Emulation forums, some emulators do run fine but some are not, good example is Citra, some games are very slow some don't run at all they crash even in newer dimensity series.
Citra MMJ has new patch which improve perfomance of Mali Gpu but still they lag Behind Adreno devices.
Check YouTube you can find lot of videos to backup this from Techutopi, and other you tubers.

Emulators become better and better on "non-Adreno" devices...
You have only to get the proper moded versions.
Instead of Citra, there's the latest Citra MMJ...you will be able to emulate 3DS with 3x resolution even on Helio G90T (G76mp4) or Dimensity 800U (G57mp3) and with good framerates. Imagine with G77mp9, you will get about 3 times better performances...
When devs focused on Mediatek, they succeed...
