I also always brushed it off as "useless", but then I just started using it for most mundane tasks. Like, asking it what time it is. I kid you not. I was prepping for work and while doing my thing just asked Siri about it and I didn't have to stop doing whatever I was doing just to check time by fingering the display to wake it up. It just told me. Or when I was already cozy in my bed and I wasn't sure if I set the correct alarm for next day. So I asked Siri across the room from my bed and it told me. If alarm was incorrect I just said to cancel them all and set a new one. Or when I was gaming and I needed to calculate damage of some shotgun as it had damage stated as 317x17 (damage per pellet) and my phone was charging far away so I just asked it to multiply it for me. Didn't have to alt-tab from game to do it or stand up and walk tot the phone. It's all very first world problem stuff, sure, but I said, why the hell not. It's there, why not just use it. And since it's for such non descriptive stuff, I'm not super worried over privacy.
I'm confident ALL "assistants" can perform such basic tasks effortlessly, which is why people asking Samsung to kill Bixby is annoying. Centralizing everything around Google sucks. Just make it configurable or possible to turn of and not hard lock it to a hardware button...

I mean, what should I say? "Siri open calendar, Siri how is the weather outside, Siri play that song or this song." I can do that myself, thank you very much. Just some few extra clicks for me, big deal.
