GSM Boy, 28 Mar 2021I think its given that ROG phones must have something to discern it from the tons of Flagship ... moreIf you said GSMArena wasn't impressed by the performance of the Ultimate, you may be right since there are hardly any tangible difference between Ultimate and vanilla ROG 5.
However, if you said GSMArena wasn't impressed by the performance of the vanilla ROG 5, you're wrong. Check out the excerpt of their review (last paragraph, bottom page):

"This is no small achievement and one that the ROG Phone 5 should rightfully wear as a batch of honor, proving its status as the ultimate gaming top-dog."

But really, I kinda agree with your first sentence. This Ultimate Edition serves as a halo product for ASUS. They may sell less, and intentionally so. But it serves the company a product that wows everyone, much like Mercedes AMG GT 4 door coupe or Koenigsegg Gemera (4 seater hypercar): to flex about their ability to design someting utterly, ridiculously powerful with almost no real world usage rather than to brag / humblebrag.

When you get under 400 euro phone that have SD870 so whats the point for a gaming phone that cost 1000 ? You wont be more skilled or anything cause you have 2 and half times more pricy pohone. You maybe have up to 5 fps more but that be it. I dont actually think it be even 5 fps. Probably around 1-3 but that dont do anything in games for a difference to pay so much for a phone that only flex it's benchmark top spots

I think its given that ROG phones must have something to discern it from the tons of Flagship killers now flooded on the market. Even Gsm arena was not impressed by its performance, its quite sad that you will be able to play the same games from a 400 usd phone and get a similar experience.

They could've used that ram and storage to create 3-4 normal phones lol
