Exactly the same tech but smaller pixels and smaller sensor. Won't make much difference during the day but will take in less light for lowlight pics

Yes it is slightly smaller in size than HMX, but it is the successor to HM1 which is proven by the pics coming out of this sensor, especially at night time.
Xiaomi has worked extensively on the HMX sensor for 2 plus years now. They have got the image processing Algorithms mastered for 4to1 pixel binning of the HMX sensor.
This being a newer sensor with 9to1 pixel binning will only improve with time as the Algorithms mature for it.

I dont like the fact that , in Iphones, u cant change the wallpapers, themes, use custom roms....freedom is restricted in iphones.

The image processing will depend on the company and processor but the sensor itself is weaker than the hm2. You only need to compare the specs on Samsung's website to see that

Hmx gives better results after cropping than any other phone on the market since it has 27Mp output. Afcourse the details will be better than any other phone outputting binned images at 12mp or 16mp.
The HM2 does even better than HM1 inside Note 20 ultra in some cases. It's performance is held back by the processor it is paired with.
Gcam shows you how good of a sensor that is.

Crop in on photos from a mi10 or mi11 and you'll see better quality than on a Redmi note 9 pro anyway. Maybe the hm2 will improve with a better chipset but it's still likely to be weaker. There's a reason why Xiaomi has chosen the Hmx for flagships. Hm2 was designed as a smaller (and weaker) version of hm1 that would take up less space and therefore be easier to use in slimmer phones

HM2 is inferior to HMX, otherwise Mi11 series would use HM2 instead of HMX.
Sony, Omnivision and Samsung do not stop making old sensors when new ones hit market.
Those 2 and 5MP used as macro/depth are same used by phones in 2010-2014. Not new models.
