AnonD-961247, 06 Dec 2020It does not have basic 3.5mm Jack. What is good in that useless phone? And I am sure that with... moreyou don't know what you are talking. I have colleagues with iphones. my oppo is day and night. I have ppl with the best samsungs and huaweis too. You need 1 month with the most expensive and best oppo currecntly (no x2pro, after 4 months will be x3 something) to realise from what universe (not our) is that phone. I always switched phones between 4 months. I am on my 8th month with the x2pro. Other phones (also were most expensive and best currently models from samsung, huawei) couldn't stand with me. something was missing.
Also, dude, what 3.5mm? No new top phone has it. Only the xperia which is flawed in other 5 things! Most important one - flawed screen qualities!
I am using airpods pro. Pls be 2021 not 2015 :) Looks like you live 6 years in the past ;) wake up
With the noise cancelations these 10 gram airpods give me huge music experience. I am dancing on my walk to work (and back in the evening) for the bus!
Just use the dolby atmos options in my oppo, and you are after huge experience man. what 3.5mm lol!!!!
new apple airpods max are out. again, no wires. no 3.5. they work like airpods pro with any android with 5.1 and above bluetooth. end of story !
Anonymous, 06 Dec 2020100% of android flagships have no 3.5mm jack. Go ahead and hail your midrange phoneOnly you and people like you can call phone without basic functionality as flagship phone. I would rather not take them for even free if they are not usable. They are just piece of useless metal+plastic rectangular box for me without 3.5mm Jack.
Anonymous, 06 Dec 2020Actually, that will ruin ip68 rating, so punchole it is or underdisplay, since most android co... moreWell, actually, I DO want pop up over underdisplay camera.
I advocate for diversity, meaning they could make multiple variant of the same phone with different designs, pop up, notch, punch hole, bezel, etc.
I'd take pop up over IP rating any day, and many peoples would do the same, plus pop up offer privacy advantage that most other designs, except slider, second display on the back, flip up (Asus Zenfone 6/7/7Pro) etc have.
And IP rating is way overrated anyway, as not only it isn't what make a phone actually water resistant, but in fact, many IP rated phones are way less water resistant than you might think.
To the point where you will find, for equally sold phone model, more reports about IP rated phone damaged or killed by water than non IP rated phones with a pop up.
One of the reason is the cognitive bias that IP rating create by letting people think their phone is fully waterproof, leading them to use it quite irresponsibly and ending up having many of them damaged or destroyed.
You may think that your own or your friend IP rated phone have been through a lot of underwater activities and never had any issues, well, it isn't about all phones, but quite a lot still end up wasted, or you may think that you aren't that irresponsible and careful use your phone, but the real issue is that, no brands cover water damage, and I think it may be because so many careless people destroy their phones with liquids, otherwise if it was a rare occurrence, it would have been covered.
I could keep going for really long about the reasons IP rating is actually not that important or even why it is detrimental, but long story short, know that an IPX7 or IPX8 rated phone isn't necessarily protected against what from IPX1 to IPX4 nor from IPX5 to IPX6 and IPX6K protect, as immersion is totally different from water jet or splash.
An IPX3 rated phone like the Poco F2 Pro may actually more survivable under rain than an IP68 rated phone, and immersion (accidental or not) is quite a rare occurrence, while use under rain is actually more or less common, and pop up, as the Poco F2 Pro IP certification prove, can actually be IP rated.
Careful though, none are made for water jet, meaning washing them on the sink or using them on the shower.
Though technically an IPX5, IPX6 or IPX6K rated should be quite robust against rain and other water splashing.
This is the reason why Sony Smartphones are both IP65 and IP68 rated.
The way the test work is by sending the phone (actually they take multiple one randomly from your production line, and will do it latter on to make sure you don't switch to a cheaper production method later on) to one of the testing organism, you say which IP level you want your equipment to be rated, you pay a little fortune that is well about a million for a smartphone model, and they test it and tell you if it did pass or not, though I don't know if they accept rare defective units or not.
All that, just to also say that we can, and should build pop up differently, in a way that is totally IP68 compliant, there are a lot of possibilities, and my two favorites I came up with are :
You basically use the Oppo Find X or Samsung A80 style where the whole back's top come up, but rather than being a part of the main body, your phone back's top have a dent, and the pop up is literally outside the phone, on that dent, so whatever happen to the pop up, it doesn't compromise the phone, and it can be quite well done by both serving as a front camera and hide the main camera too for both privacy and lens protection, it can also use a bypass lens to use the main sensors once lifted to get a way better quality than any dedicated camera, and it would only require a 3 position rather than a 2 position to work.
My second favorite is basically what this fictional concept phone is about :
https://imgur.com/gallery/ykYfaa6
You have a "slot" inside the top of the phone in which the pop up module is located, the slot itself is totally sealed from the phone's inside, with a pass-through flat flex cable or contact pins, and the pop up, who have magnets on its sides basically is actuated with electromagnets and held in place with magnets who are simply on the inside part of the slot, and since magnets don't interfere with the phone and electromagnets can easily be made to also have next to no impacts either, it could work quite well, it would be quite cheap and easy to make and really reliable.
In fact, it can even be made without any electronic inside the pop up module, with one or more 90° see through prisms, like what are inside Telephoto Periscope, it could use the main camera(s), be user replaceable and cheap to do so, which would work well with my single sensor all mode concept :
https://imgur.com/gallery/tIXYDCW
That could simply use one or two additional ToF LiDAR sensor that could also use similar 90° prisms to also work as 3D face recognition, knowing that an electromagnetically actuated pop up would be really fast.
Anyway, the best front camera solution is diversity, and like I often said, one of those is also no front camera at all, and just yesterday I discovered a concept that totally validate what I said and which may actually be THE ultimate solution of one was to be chosen (but even if it would be my favorite, I still insist that other options long it are still the way to go, as diversity is the universal solution).
It is removable and autonomously operating back/main camera :

I am on my 8th month ownership and I love it as I did in the 1st day. This phone is out of this World. I bet x3 will also be. I am not even looking at other companies proposals, my next phone will be x3 pro replacing my beloved x2 pro
wongwatt, 02 Dec 2020If the Find X3 Pro has wireless charging it will be a serious draw for me, that's the onl... moreDon't need wireless charging when you can charge from 0 to full in 40mins.
Anonymous, 02 Dec 2020I think the pop up selfie is dead. Everyone will be working on under display selfie from here ... moreOther are waiting the screens to be sold by Samsung Display.
Companies like OnePlus, Motorola, Sony, Htc an dother do not want Boe screen.
If the Find X3 Pro has wireless charging it will be a serious draw for me, that's the only thing that kept me from the X2 Pro.
Can't wait to see the Find X3 Pro because from there we can see how the OnePlus 9 Pro would look like, especially when it comes to the camera.
first. and also ok
Anonymous, 02 Dec 2020I think the pop up selfie is dead. Everyone will be working on under display selfie from here ... moreIt isn't dead, there are still phones planned with it and patents or prototypes with it.
I think everyone will have a huge disappointment with underdisplay camera, when punch holes appeared everyone were extremely enthusiastic about them, but now, except for few peoples (often the same) that overly defend it, the vast majority of peoples have grown to hate it...
The pop up is extremely easy to implement, amateurs have done much complex tasks than that at home, it also is inexpensive unlike what peoples thing.
The underdisplay camera is actually extremely hard to implement, hence why it take so long vs the pop up that small brands that aren't popular at all did implemented it.
I would strong advise anyone to NOT buy the ZTE for its underdisplay camera, wait for another smartphone, not only the pictures have been proven to be quite bad, they are all blurry, but this phone is, I am sure, basically a beta test thrown at peoples and it is not representative of the cost of the tech.
In fact, this phone regardless what front camera is used, doesn't even make sense, it is too cheap, let alone with an underdisplay camera, don't forget that it took years of R&D, and it probably cost a lot as you need to make many complex display, code extremely complex camera software and all that, this money will hit hard when real underdisplay camera will come out.
I am sure the ZTE Axon 20 will have weird things like different bugs for different phones as if there were different bunch, updates that will make the quality worse on some and better on others and many other signs they simply throw at users prototypes that aren't final phones and use it to cut on R&D by using consumers as beta testers like video games do nowaday.
Privacy shouldn't be a problem for the user to fix, it should be mandatory and legally enforced.
Also, moving parts aren't an issue, in some applications they are, but on smartphones, even very frequent use of the pop up camera will still result in it outliving the display, battery and some really important electronic components, except in some units that may have defects, this trend is actually confirmed with really few reports of pop up out of order, and for the same phones, way much more reports about other key elements like, as I listed before, battery, display or electronic issues.
What make the pop up rare is actually those myths about it, despite the pop up performing well.
Consider that the Mars Rover Opportunity which is made of many moving parts, and was made to last 90 month, and you can't overdo something for space exploration as weight is really important, it lasted over 14 years, and it wasn't even moving parts that killed it.
There are pocket watch that are hundreds of year old and still operate.
The US Space Shuttle (STS) had multiple millions of moving parts, and they were not involved in both Shuttle losses that actually occurred to good old static parts.
Remember that for a while, peoples didn't liked electronic and considered good old mechanical devices much more reliable, they electronic may have improved in reliability, but the moving parts didn't decreased in durability or reliability, in fact they increased in both thanks to modern technology, and there isn't much difference nowadays.
Most cars now have to go to the garage because of electronic issues, not mechanical ones.
Someone with a 60's car will probably still have his car in working conditions when most 2020 cars won't be anymore.
Quite a few World War Two aircraft still work today, I saw multiple flying.
And I haven't checked yet, but I am sure it is true when I say that :
There is probably more posts about pop up being a problem because of wear, moving parts, water, dust, added point of failure etc, than the actual number of pop up who did break.
AnonD-909757, 02 Dec 2020I hope the Find X3 will get back to the pop up the original Find X had. Punch holes and notch... moreI think the pop up selfie is dead. Everyone will be working on under display selfie from here on including Samsung which will have an under display selfie in its next foldable. Under display selfie does not have moving parts so is easier to implement than the pop up camera. Once Samsung adopts it (even though ZTE did it first) it'll become mainstream and everyone will do it too. Although not good for privacy, you can always get a case with a cover so you can cover it up when you're not using it.
AnonD-909757, 02 Dec 2020I hope the Find X3 will get back to the pop up the original Find X had. Punch holes and notch... moreI agree with the fact that it needs a pop up camera (or at least an under display camera) but nah nah nah holes in the display are not nice at all.
I hope the Find X3 will get back to the pop up the original Find X had.
Punch holes and notches are nice but there are too much already.
Same with underdisplay camera that everyone already plan on making.
I would be really nice if there was more diversity, and we lack pop up with 3D facial recognition.
I also hope it will have the 3.5mm Jack as many want it back.
And I really hope it have a flat display as too many flagships already have curved edge displays.
