I wouldn't need one if Apple Watch allowed Qi charging. Also it's a bit annoying since I use butterfly clasp metal bracelet on my AW5 so I can't just place it on a mat anymore.

      Wait whuaat!?
      Using an A11 chipset,
talk about overkill, basically using an iphone as a charge controller :D hope its is just a prototype.
Would be as expensive as a budget phone,
may be apple plans on crypto mining using ur house electricity.
It could run on a raspberry pi
Possible that it really requires hive connected machine learning(full os & software and IOT connectivity through ur phone) for heat measurements , voltage, current, frequency and coil logistics.
Android manufacturers could do that using dirt cheap old chipsets and Android opensource
Even apple could do that, cheaper BOM, but imagine the headline,
APPLE CHARGER TEARDOWN SHOWS OLD ANDROID CHIPSET, POSSIBLY RUNNING ANDROID INSIDE

noobly_dangers, 21 Jun 2020Get ready for 7+ year old tech that will cost $450 and be full of bugs.If you knew anything about the AirPower you wouldn't be calling it technology that is outdated by seven years. There isn't another wireless charger on the market that allows you to charge three devices simultaneously anywhere on the pad instead of in a fixed position.

Pretty entertaining comments on here. It's incredible that even after 3 years, people still don't understand what AirPower actually is and why it's such an engineering challenge to get it to work properly.

Anonymous, 20 Jun 2020that picture only shows you can charge a watch from fixed position .The unfortunate nature of photographs is that they can only capture a moment in time. The unfortunate nature of colloquial “reality” is that objects cannot simultaneously exist in multiple intersecting positions of spacetime.

I hope there's version with built in battery, just like powerbank

Who sent you that fake news?

The delays were because overlapping coils were required for a device to be placed anywhere on the mat and charge, and this was causing the devices to heat up too much. I read in another article that they're working on re-engineering the coils to solve this.

RR Sharizam, 20 Jun 2020So much problem just to make a charging mat.Last thing I read about this is that Apple wants only Apple devices to be able to charge on it and not Android devices, and all the delays are because they can't get that working.
