Mediatek Helio G80 would actually be a good processor for the smartphone. I guess this is in the budget segment.
I guess the price of the smartphone should be under 10k seeing the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset in it.
It sure seems like a soli phone. Love the MediaTek Helio G70 chipset inclusion. Xiaomi and MediaTek has been doing amazing job.
Anonymous, 17 Apr 2020It would be better if they used sd675 or at least stick to the sd665 inside the note 8In that case just buy a note 8 then. Plus, why would Xiaomi refresh their note lineup if they are still going to use the chipset from the last generations of note? Doesnt make sense
Xiaomi's high management is stunned by the strength of Honor 30 Series, and is concerned with the forthcoming Honor 10X Series (Kirin820, 5G, to be announced in May).
The formal lineup for the low-end Redmi series is still very much a mystery.
There are three positions: Redmi 9, Redmi Note 9, Redmi Note 9 Pro.
There are 5 candidates, as far as they have been showing up in various engineering samples:
1) 4G phone (G80);
2) 4G phone (SD720G);
3) 5G phone (Dimensity 700, a clock-down version of Dimensity 800).
SD765G > D700 > SD720, SD730, SD730G, MediaTek G90T.
4) 5G phone (Dimensity 800, at its default clock). Kirin820 >> D800 > SD765G, Exynos 980.
5) 5G phone (Dimensity 800+, clock-up version). Kirin820 > D800+ >> SD765G.
Xiaomi wants this series to be competitive against Realme's low end series in the 4G Market, but also competitive, in its domestic market, against Honor Play 4T series (Kirin810) and upcoming 5G series Honor 10X (Kirin820).
My guesstimate is as follows:
Redmi 9: 4G phone (G80);
Redmi Note 9: 4G phone (SD720G);
Redmi Note 9 Pro: 5G phone (D800+);
More 5G phones in series is also possible, e.g.:
Redmi Note 9 5G: 5G phone (D700).
It will sport Snapdragon 662..
Aierlan, 17 Apr 2020It has to be a 5g chip anyway. There's no market for new 4g phones in ChinaFor flagships, yes, for midrangers (and low end devices like this one), 4G is the way to go in 2020, even for their home market, and that's because midrange SoCs (from Qualcomm, Kirin, or, MediaTek), does not support 5G. SD lowest SoC is 765 with (5G support). Maybe next year.

Logan, 17 Apr 2020Punchhole Crap again - PLEASE NO MORE of these ! Pop Up Selfie Cam is the way to gopopup cam is slower if you wanna use face recognition and the mechanic needs more space inside... Thats why K20/K20Pro not have microSD and bigger battery...
It better not have plastic frame or back. Just horrible.
It's G80 not dimensity 800. It's the cheapest version of redmi Note 9, so expect low end.
IpsDisplay, 17 Apr 2020Hopefully it isnt the g80.. at 1080p is just can't game properly Hopefully it's the dimensity 800They won't use better chipset than the pro model
Khalequzzaman, 17 Apr 2020MediaTek Helio 80? 😠Seriously? 😕 G80 or, Dimensity 800 or, any other? 😷G80
