I wish I read this article sooner. Right now I already got the Sony Xperia 5 to find out the Email app is not there. At this moment - I got my phone a few hours - I find it a disappointment.
Well, that sucks. At least the Sony Xperia is now available in the US.
Sony getting closer to pure Android. As I run Sony phones with BlackBerry services (Gmail disabled), this is a good thing.

Fearghast, 07 Nov 2019You clearly have problem to handle ... criticism.he got the point actually, squarish design doesnt mean uncomfortable to grip than curved, unless its slippery or too big.. people even doesnt care, they even opted for bigger phone called phablet which is not comfortable to grip because its oversize (too wide) but people still prefer to choose it, so its depends on user how to handle or adapted to it
Is it problem for xperia xa ultra or older models

That's also the reason why I said they should use larger batteries next time, as they could showcase the true power of optimization. iPhone XS Max with 3140mAh cell already has a decent battery life, but 11 Pro Max with 3969mAh one just blows everything else out of the water. Even the 4300mAh battery of the Note 10+ loses to it. I'm definitely sure this is what Sony could pull off when they do the same thing.
2 - They absolutely HAVE the right to cost just as much as them. Back when Samsung was using.cheap materials for their flagships, and Apple was facing reception issues due to phone's framework design, Sony was literally offering near problem-free high end classic flagship phones for the same price range. In the last few years, Sony offered a lot of many new things that I'd consider to be more practical.
3 - Phones' look is subjective. Perhaps you didn't like the design, but there are many who love the simplicity and durability of Sony's craftsmanship.

No phone is uncomfortable to handle. It all depends on how the user handles it, because there are proper ways of handling different things. I know many people who used Xperias in the past, and I never heard them complaining about the squarish design of the phone to cause gripping problems in their daily usage. In fact, the non-squarish curved Galaxy flagshIps are even harder to handle, but then again there are proper ways to hold them, which the users don't try to discover. Perhaps you could've tried to adapt your handling to it, because I once held a Galaxy phone, then a Xperia afterwards, and I don't even feel the Sony to be anything harder to handle.
You're simply tryIng to find reasons to justity your ignorance. Don't blame the phone for something they can't control.
Yeah my Xperia 5, even with stamina enabled, has pretty garbage battery life.
Even two years old LG V30+ does last longer and has lower idle drain ... not to mention BT drain.
I am really glad I got mine Xperia 5 with 25% discount, extra NC headphones and JBL speaker ... otherwise I would be really pissed.

To be honest, I'm greatly impressed and even if my mate 10 pro had better number, it was only 5 more hour combined usage, for a lot bigger battery and a lot of background tasks cut off with an axe.
It looks the same as a samsung S10 or a iPhone X colleagues have.

Their previous models, they were nowhere near as attractive as Xperia 1 or 5, but still overpriced. So, there is that
oPaGanDasTyle, 07 Nov 2019But you forget one thing: they cant change the design language, that "all square brick" people... moreBut I like square phone, so, still nice to have choice =)
And Xperia 1 is really not square compared to says, a nokia 920 that imprinted it's corner into my hands bones, or more recently, Samsung Note 10.
Well, not really important. I'm just glad I found a phone that doesn't have round corners, curved screen nor curved back, it feels far less slippery for me and far more sleek. Luckily there is a ton of alternatives for people that want round things, the brand is nothing but a name in the end. It would be a really bad thing if all the brands went with the same design.
Stereo speaker greatly improved with an update, just found out will playing last week because I usually use headphone due to the bad stereo the phone had first, but I am greatly pleased with the speaker. Of course since I respect people I don't push it loud and I never expected bass from a phone, that would be silly to have bass AND sound quality considering the form factor.
Never used a first party software since I do not trust the manufacturer enough to give them all the data willingly. Maybe I'm not alone in this case so some brands stop with these bloatwares because it's not really needed?
I didn't like built in or Gmail apps, so I switched to outlook..
Plenty of options to choose from, I just rather give my credentials to Microsoft :p

You see, the Xperia 1 itself is already a huge effort ... moreBut you forget one thing: they cant change the design language, that "all square brick" people say about Sony, cause so much strange reactions.
Me eighter have 3 SOny devices in the past - Xperia E, Xperia SP and Z Ultra - since the last, i give up on Sony, cause square phones are not too comfortable to hold.
And i think people are away from Sony cause of that too, you dont want a phone wich is too hard to type in, or to hold. Sony should change that, every other phone maker (excluding Razor, i dont remember any more) arent using this squarish corners, is all rounded corners to make the phone good to hold but SOny keep doing the same thing, people complain for years about that.
One thing is right: Sony target market is more for Japanese taste not worldwide, so, why dont sell only Sony Phones in Japan?! think they will lose less money with that strategy.
Otherwise all you say is right: Sony speakers are always a mess, Sony is known for audio quality headphones but cant put a decent speaker on a phone, even cant put a stereo speakers on even with that top and bottom chin's.
And thats why Sony are left behind the competition, and someday this could be the new HTC, or even Blackberry.
Everyone have space to sell their things but Sony, i dont see a Sony phone for sale in retail for a looong time...cause people those days only see Samcrap and crApple and dont but nothing else.
Huawei are done for good in worldwide, Xiaomi is growing but not enough to reach USA, OPPO and vivo dont need USA or other world outside China. Whats left for Sony?! Japan only.

You see, the Xperia 1 itself is already a huge effort from Sony, and definitely a very unique offering from the competition.
What they had to do is to somehow follow the meaningful trend on smartphones today, like having wireless charging, performing multi-frame image stacking for Auto (leave the untouched photos for Manual), improve audio quality with greater speaker bass and much louder and cleaner/clearer output on the headphones, a relatively large battery with perfect Sony's battery optimization, and perhaps more features on software without going too far from stock android (like OnePlus's Oxygen OS).
The last bit is the marketing. This is a small part of the overall package, but it decides the fate of popularity of the product. A well-advertised phone, no matter how bad it is in reality, would sell like hotcakes due to their great presence and appeal to the customers.
At the same time, they can't sell the world's perfect smartphone if it won't be marketed well, as nobody would have the idea about that phone.
