When I do videos, I dont do fiddling much, I just go whatever the default is. It been good for me for many years. I did tried a 4k with my samsung s9, its good but still my eyes dont care as much. realitychecker, 19 Aug 2019well, i always record in 1080p anyways. but this is nice thing to know. Try to record in 4K, and later downres it to 1080p. You can see the difference between that and the same video captured at native 1080p.

AverageUser, 19 Aug 2019I agree. Samsung makes well rounded phones. Huawei focused only on photography...But still not the best photography-centric phone out there. I've seen some video comparison between the P30 Pro and the older flagship Nokia/Microsoft Lumias, and the latter can still do better on most occasion. I only like the P30 Pro because of its hybrid zoom and low light capability, that's all. Huawei's post-image oversharpen processing on broad daylight is a total joke!

Yes, but SD855 did nothing to overcome the notorious SD's overheating problem which is surely enough to make a cup of tea

4k 8k or even bigger it oesnt matter.
Anything beyound HD cost lot of disk space and drains phone battery quickly.
Thus is not good to use and rely on.

              SD855 already did this.

Anonymous, 19 Aug 20194K60 needs better lighting than 4K30 to keep quality. All the phones tested here have 1080p60... moreFirst of all, Huawei shouldn't have much problem with recording at 4K60 even at night since they use a lot larger sensor compared to its rivals. The ISP on Kirin 980, however, was clearly not good enough to handle 4K30 recording at high bit rate let alone 4K60, so hopefully they will make a significant upgrade to it so that they will be able to surpass the competition in video performance as well.
Also OIS is definitely NOT useless for videos. Why do you think Google, Apple and Samsung all have one of the best video stabilization among all companies? It's because they use OIS along with EIS to eliminate shakes. You might also be interested to hear that Xperia 1 uses hybrid stabilization system dubbed as Optical SteadyShot.
Finally, most companies don't offer 24fps recording because for average consumer, there's no point of recording a video at frame rate lower than 30fps.

Anonymous, 20 Aug 2019one correction regarding cycles you are mentioning... Performance-wise, Qualcomm is ahead at ... moreSorry but you're totally incorrect. So far Huawei has been updating the CPU and GPU cores every year except in 2017 when they decided to stick to A73 and A53 for CPU cores instead of using A75 and A55 like Qualcomm and Samsung did. In fact Kirin 980 was far ahead of SD845 CPU performance and efficiency wise while the GPU was only slightly inferior. So unless Huawei will pull a Samsung's way and only make an incremental upgrade to the process node and change nothing else, Kirin 985 or 990 will be vastly superior to SD855+ apart from the graphics performance.

Nick Tagataka, 19 Aug 2019Why are you bringing up the speaker integrated in the charging port on Mate 20 Pro even though... moreone correction regarding cycles you are mentioning...
Performance-wise, Qualcomm is ahead at least one year comparing to Huawei, so 7nm Kirin have the same performance like 10nm Snapdragon...thats only 3nm...but in nanoworld, its a difference in miles.
So we cannot say that they are catching up one another, thats a wrong statement.
                            Kirin is inferior.
For Apple i agree, thats something completely different, different kind on beast but Kirin, its a still a baby....maybe one day, but not now, not this or next year....
