I dont know if people think its for free when Huawei release Q for some phones, it is not and because of this many of the cheaper phones, low and mid rangers will not get Q, of course not...
So funny when people want it all, without paying.
Its the same with everything, not only phones, you get what you pay for, so simple.

Personally i would prefer to get the Ark OS on my M20X instead of Q... But...

You say the entire mate 20 range but the Mate 20 X (4G) and Mate 20 lite are both missing. I really hope this is a typo as i have the mate 20 lite and it is a really good phone considering its mid range specs and would be pretty disappointing to miss out on Q because Huawei don't care enough
