I do it myself even on an LCD phone even if it doesn't use much power on high brightness compared to OLED. Otherwise, high-brightness users would be well aware of the distance they're supposed to use their phones in

Walter C. Dornez, 30 Apr 2019Yeah, but phones are closer to our eyes than a foot at times. They sometimes are, but they don’t need to be. It’s a health hazard to stare at bright screens so close.
And if you constantly hold your phone closer than a foot, its because you might actually need corrective glasses.

Nice, finally the new XR will have a telephoto camera back. hopefully next year will have the 3D touch back, and in 2021 will have a higher 1080 screen and then finally we will have XR that is equal to the iphone 8 Plus features at the same price when it was introduced ( that is if Apple didn't mark up the prices even more every year which I really doubt it)
my guess 2022 will feature a new named variant with a single camera emit some features and call it the best budget iphone at $1200. wash rinse repeat.

It's fairly easy to distinguish between 300 ppi and 360 ppi for example. (which is 450 ppi and 540 ppi for amoled displays)

However, anything above 360 ppi (540 ppi amoled) is hard for the human eye to see a difference (even with perfect vision) at distances of 25-30 cm (10-12 inches) away from the eyes.
At this normal viewing distance, you would not be able to tell a difference between a 360 ppi display and say a 1,000,000 ppi display.

Diamond Pentile is still a pentile arrangement. "Diamond" just means that ALL pixels are diamond-shaped and the subpixels are layed out in a diamond pattern.
The information you missed is that this arrangement still relies on neighbouring pixels to render colour, so even if it's a diamond pentile, it still has half the number of red/blue subpixels compared to the number of green ones, and it needs adjacent subpixels to render colour.

You have old information. Since the S4, Samsung used the diamond pentile active matrix OLEDs which didn´t rely on neighbouring pixels to give a colour. Since the switch to diamond pentile,NO tech reviewer ever bashed OLEDs. Instead, the opposite happened, the diamond pentile design easily surpassed the IPS LCDs which was also a deciding factor why many manufacturers decided to switch to OLED, because it was superior to ips LCD panels. Including Apple or OnePlus. Manufacturers who still wanted to compete with the OLED panels developed things like quantum dot ips panels which ended up failing longevity wise to OLEDs that suffered severe retentions within 3 months of use. Should've researched a little further to the current era, because you´re referring to Pentile RGBG matrix. Also, a new technology of OLED display will be introduced in upcoming years, Z-Type AMOLED RGB sub-pixel arrangement, which will have 3 subpixels per pixel.

At the normal viewing distance, the required ppi for sharp LCD screens is 300 ppi (450 ppi for amoled), and supersharp is around 360 ppi (540 ppi for amoled) - after which point you won't be able to see improvements in sharpness unless you hold your phone closer to your eyes.

Going above that would not add any benefit for the user, as it's already above the standard of 300 ppi.

If it were amoled, then the screen would need to be 490 ppi in order to output a real 326 ppi.

The LCD resolution of 828 x 1,792 px is equivalent to amoled 1,242 x 2,688 px. That's because amoled pixels have 1/3 less subpixels than RGB matrix LCDs.

If they give their "cheap" one a dual camera module, it confirms that their flagships will get more than two lenses for main camera module. Good news maybe ? err, wait, at what price tho :-P
