Aestetics: it's just a pleasure to look at a type C connector... moreEvery mid ranger (even devices upto 500$), which have USB Type C, support just 2.0 speeds. Transfer speeds wouldn't change until they start giving 3.0+ in that price, which probably isn't happening in at least a year or two. For PD, compatibility will take even more than that.
As for "looks", well there are people who are ready to use Pixel despite how bad it looks just for the camera. I guess if you are getting great specs at, say, 150$, you can live with the "ugly" micro usb port. But that's my opinion, and yes it's subjective.
Reversability is the only benefit as of now, but IMO that's not that big of a deal.

This helps promote its faster adoption industrywide. A Single port & cable that does all things in all devices, this is a dream getting realised!! Brilliant.

where are you rushing to, in the dark? can't reverse the plug which take just a mere second?

So, its not even "Redmi" series, but the premium "Mi" series with its specialty being the 10GB/ month... Doesn't quite add up... Something is fishy or missing.
In India, you can get 1 GB/ day for 1 year at about Rs. 1600 or something around $20, so it can't be that.
Is it the highly anticipated Music-centric phone from Xiaomi? This seems probable,,,

woww didn't know there was MediaTek Helio P35...and Xiaomi MI play could be a very good gaming phone considering the octa-cores are clocked at a super speed of 2.3GHz!

cocomoumo, 25 Dec 2018Xiaomi starts using Mediatek soc and will use Spreadtum soc in the future. Really? Source please? Spreadtrum is getting better, but their highest SoC is only as good as this P35 or the upcoming P40, despite using newer A55. Power consumption will be their biggest downside since they're still using 28nm HPC+, while Mediatek has at least 12nm.

Functionality: As a reversible cable. You can plug it and direction. Much alike Lightning cable of a certain fruit company
Power delivery and Data transfer: Comlaring to Micro USB type B. The C type can reach MUCH higher peak transfer rates. And supports incredibly high wattage without being damage.

I have one year free data service in China, it is also unlimited 4G every month but after 20GB it slows down, I got it as an extra when I bought honor8x from carrier store in china
