We all knew this would happen.
3D Face unlocking is not secure. Just because Apple does it everyone gets on the hype, and follows it like blind sheep. Finger-print scanners is the way to go.

Uh, I don't know... using photos from DSLR in ads for smartphone is really prevalent among the industry as smartphones just can't match proper cameras in terms of pure image quality. Nobody wants to use grainy/oil-painting like photos in their promotional material, you know.

Take a look at photos used in the HTC's official website for instance, do you think they have really been taken by U12+? This level of detail, bokeh and dynamic range is not achievable by smartphone especially in lower lighting.
Actually Samsung did the same thing as Huawei recently but nobody seems to be batting an eye on that, so in my personal opinion it's something which shouldn't be criticised at all in the first place, unless it's clearly stated somewhere that photos have been taken by a phone.
This is a fat lie. In a short period of time, they were able to come up with such observations?.. the west again tackling the far east via media hoist. Move over to the far eastern web media and see what they are saying
Overpriced Chinese spyware phone can't even do 3D face unlock properly. Epic fail.
lyndino, 20 Oct 2018You forgot about the professional camera's being used to promote how good the p20 pictures are. I shoot pictures with my Sony a57 and sonys SAL16-105 (thats a 700€ lens) and I also use my p20 pro heavily and really, the picture quality margin is really really small unless you start superzooming in to watch individual pixels. The dynamic range is great and the 10Mpx resolution is fine enough to print up to a3 size pictures in superb quality

Note7 owner, 20 Oct 2018So why don’t googles own pixel phones have Face ID? Because no one need Face unlocker. Fingerprint scanner is much faster, more reliable, more secure (I doesn’t give a s..t about what Apple says), more useful (you should stand up and look at your phone or pick it up to unlock it when it lays in the table) and it doesn’t make you look stupid when you try to unlock your phone and it doesn’t unlock.
I see literally no reason to raise the cost of a phone over 300$ only to add a face unlocker. I’m really thankful instead of a useless face unlocker Google sticks to FPS and focuses on useful and important stuff like titan m chip, UI, camera and etc.
Ok let’s stay a little bit realistic and don’t act like fools, In that was so many cuts, I couldn’t see if they really did set their face unlock right, between of those video cuts they didn’t change their face unlock, if the phone really, if that was the same phone, that passed to the other guy. They could be another Apple baiters and want to make Huawei looks terrible. Seriously that video was just a crap. If they don’t like why instead of creating a clear no questionable video they made a 2 minutes video without really showing the set up and unlock process without any video cuts?
it's not the os that we consumers are going to get so there will be more updates and improvements which will sure clear this issue. its an early software
I was planning to buy Mate 20 Pro but then after I read this news I'm not quite sure about it now. I know mistakes happen, but they certainly could've made sure this wouldn't occur when they were testing the goddamn device in the lab, especially when it's one of the biggest selling point of their most expensive flagship smartphone yet!
Hopefully this bug will be fixed in retail software, but frankly speaking I'm a bit disappointed with this company. Benchmark cheating, removal of a monochrome sensor and now this. Get your s**t together, Huawei.
Does everyone find it normal that you voluntarily agree to give "them" your fingerprint scan, your face scan, to let them know where you were yesterday and what you did, who are your friends, family ...?
What's next? You will give "them" half of liters of your blood, just so you can be fancy while unlocking your phone?
AnonD-558092, 19 Oct 2018Official response will be gibberish as always.I always like to see how companies try to defend these things. Love the entertainment ;)
So the purpose of the Wide Notch shattered... Better they had gone for the smaller Notch...
Whackcar, 19 Oct 2018Let's see... iPhone Xs/Xs Max issues at launch: ChargeGate, BeautyGate, WifiGate. $1000/... moreI know you're better than this. Please don't follow "Whatabout-ism". It is not the right kind of thinking. You should not try to shift blame, instead pressure the brand for making a reliable solution especially if you like Huawei.
IPhone also had similar issues in the beginning should be easy to fix.
Anonymous, 20 Oct 2018To Chinese AI all white folks look the same :PLOL !!!
I feel so annoying that every time you picked up your phone it starts looking for any faces to recognize. It runs in the background but certainly, it drains your battery. Front finger print sensor is best. So, you don't need to lift up your phone, touch it boom. I love my P10 plus that still I cannot find a very good reason to upgrade.
Both look quite similar in my opinion.. @gsmarena hv u guys tried the same on iphone?
