We're expecting Cortex-A55 cores to trickle down to budget segment (let alone Kryo 3xx based on the A55, it should be on the 6xx/7xx/8xx series)

In terms of performance, the 636/660 SoCs are one (one and a half for the 660) step ahead against the QSD625. But its redundant use because of great value that makes the 636/660 are the new 625.

Wake me up when Vivo offers a credible, time specific, commitment to providing security updates to its phones.

There should be a recreation of SD625 based on the newer architechture (4x Cortex A53 @2.5GHz + 4x Cortex A53 @1.5GHz, 10nm or 7nm), and use them ONLY for at most $150 Android devices, paired up with large batteries and excellent battery optimizations.

TenMoon, 17 Oct 2018Nope. The 660/636 is the new 625.Not really, the QSD 625 was always a low-end SoC but it was unfortunate to see it get sold for 2-full years (2017-2018) in mid-range devices.

The QSD 636 is a solid mid-range chip.
You can step up slightly to the QSD 670 for more performance, then step up again to the QSD 660, then step up again to the QSD 710 at which point you're equal to the QSD 820/821 performance (but worse efficiency).

To advance higher you then hit the high-end chips such as the QSD 835 and the QSD 845...chipsets that should become obsolete with the next generation (new lithography, new microarchitecture, new memory/bandwidth).

This website is focusing on mobile phones and technology surrounding them, so Chinese phones released globally should also given a fair share. And do keep in mind that 'unnecessary' doesn't mean it's not 'review worthy'. If a phone is so similar to the others and it's not worth it to re-review it, the editors would skip it anyway

The age old "Chinese OEMs launching devices every week" thing apart, these are some great devices for the price.
IMO Vivo is getting more competetive these days, that too without launching another sub-brand for cutting prices like Oppo.

I hope this site will do us a favour and spare us the hands-on and the reviews of so many similar, unnecessary, run-of-the-mill Chinese smartphones and instead focus of good, unique devices, like the LG V40 ThinQ and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4.
