H-1, 27 Jun 2018That's like the laser ruler but more complex! Vivo just made the equivalent of echography... Kudos!As someone who works in a laboratory using TOF, yes, you are right in that its essentially firing a laser and detecting it afterwards in a field to generate an image. Or in proper terms "depth".
However, Vivo is (probably) wrong about the headline. It will be not be 10 times better, in fact, its worse than FaceID v1.0. Why? Because of miniaturisation you lose a significant degree of "straightness" and resolution. That means the image is not as accurate in practice compared to theory, and you have a drastic drop in detail.

Vivo uses Time Of Flight technology equivalent to sonar but uses light wave instead of sound wave.. This innovation led to a simpler hardware and miniaturization
