Are you even aware where the iPhones are manufactured? Apple may be an American brand, but the iPhone is not, at least most of its components.

ZTE sold restricted US technology to Iran. When they were caught, they were told to fire/punish all of the employees responsible, to help ensure it did not happen again. ZTE chose not to comply with those conditions, showing they did not consider it a serious infraction. Having now twice breached conditions of purchase/licensing, ZTE has proven that it cannot be trusted to honor the USA's technology embargo. To prevent further infractions, it is being banned from acquiring or using the technology in the first place. What could they possibly say in an appeal to excuse their behaviour?

If a company is found to be dealing with ZTE in spite of this prohibition that exists under American jurisdiction, such as say, Intel, or Qualcomm, the company will be severely penalized - hence in effect they are prohibited from any sort of under the table or al novo deals with ZTE to furnish them with the relevant goods and technology licenses, unless they want to incur significant financial penalty for doing so, which of course, they don't.

Elvitya, 08 May 2018Good thing i dont live in USAYour position in the USA doesn't actually matter.... the difficulty and why this ban is so damaging for ZTE is it is effectively a ban on using American technologies. Depending on how aggressive that is, here's a few things ZTE could totally lose access to, since they can no longer purchase or license such technologies (which means they only have current supply for ALL markets):
- Qualcomm Techs (Snapdragon SoCs, Radios, etc.)
- Google Play Services + Apps
- Potentially issues with Android OS as well
It affects everyone, since the ban is a prohibition on the use of American technologies and goods, not simply their jurisdiction.

well, is alright,soon US citizens will use only iphones, this is were is going to,first huawei,now zte...lol,only problem is for the people,they have fewer choices when it comes to buying smartphones....

Please us commerce don't lift the ban because I am using ZTE nubia n2 phones there is no services and part are not available service station are too far need to send in courier no accessories are available and no software updates in the phones it means waste of money please don't lift the ban

Just use Samsung or Huawei Chipset whats the big deal. They are equally or some what better.

I'm sure there's other companies doing what ZTE was doing as well, ( maybe not the exact same thing, but probably similar). ZTE just unlucky and got in trouble during the US and China trading fight.
And as for the security risk things, it is completely BS, as someone mentioned, there's tons of iPhone in China, and many Chinese brand / Chinese phones in the US?
