The stage of development / manufacturing they're at now, the smaller size SoC's are more expensive. The process to produce the lager SoC's is cheaper to start and results in higher yields of good chips.
As things progress and the process ramps up better yields on smaller die sizes, it gets cheaper in raw materials.

this is G71MP8.
definetely better than P60 atleast in GPU power. slap a decent DSP (ie for AV1 codec) and ISP, release source code for developer. it'll be nice alternative

I can't believe people on this site are expecting performance on the level of the QSD 845.
C'mon, this thing will barely rival the QSD 636. It won't match the likes of the QSD 670, and not to mention the Exynos series.
Though, I would've hoped Xiaomi would be smart about this.
I thought they would combine x7 Cortex A55 cores with x1 Cortex A75 core, into a single DynamIQ cluster. That would be the smart move.
Comparing it to the fan-favourite QSD 625:
The area of the chip (die size) would be ~115%, so each chip would cost Xiaomi +15% more money. However, single-threaded performance would jump up from those measly A53 performance to the A75, yielding around ~250% performance or increase of +150%. And total performance/multithreaded would top out at ~140%, ie a boost of +40%. And efficiency would be relatively high!
This is the chip to build!
It's the budget orientation that rivals the QSD 625 in price, but rivals the QSD 660 in performance.

Geric.770, 28 Apr 2018Yup. Also Samsung's Exynos 7870 and Snapdragon 410!I wouldnt mind if they use more of that exynos 7872 on ohter phones then just Meizu M6S that give 90K Antutu score so it's something 80K for v6. M6S sells for 145 euro global version of 3/32 20-30 euro more for 3/64GB
But it's good that Asian companies start to make there own chip and soon can say screw you USA companies that go too political like with the ZTE situation.

Not at all odd that CDMA is missing as I think what we're seeing is an assumption that Trump will lock Chinese makers out the US for the foreseeable future. Xiaomi needs to stop being dependent on Qualcomm; they don't want to end up like ZTE or under threat like Huawei. And as CDMA needs US patents, they need to leave it out of their own silicon.
It's good in a way as the Chinese market may go its own way with new ideas if it doesn't have to follow Apple slavishly. (If the US does much more protectionism I suspect iPhone will be banned in China.)

Maybe they have chance only against MediaTek SoC, and Kirin because Huawei in mid processors (658-659) still use 16nm but who knows only time will tell, for now Qualcomm, and Exynos is just fine for global market.

it has 16nm FABRICATION. not 28... (the S1 has 28. and I guess it was just a test)
Octa core big.LITTLE set of 4xA73@2.2GHz+4xA53@1.8 GHz.
and likely a Mali-G71MP8...

Antutu 7 for all phones shows more score than Antutu 6 for some reason.
Yes SD 625 is still good. Maybe Samsung in J8 Plus (2018) will use same processor, just because of efficiency.

If OEM's use their own chipset then they should limit to 4 devices per cycle. Entry level, mid level, flagship and niche segment like pro camera phone or gaming phone with higher battery capacity and better heat dissipation.
