This might be too early, but I sense HTC is really trying to get back on their feet.
I really hope this is the case, and I hope they're trying hard enough and that they have learnt their lessons.
Google has nothing to do with this Link VR headset. They (Google, Lenovo, HTC) are working on standalone VR headsets wich require no phone or extra Tracking camera like the Link VR does.
Calamity Cat, 26 May 2017Lately? Doesn't at the very least the past decade count as more than lately?Of course. Lately is an expression. I been using HTC for 8 years. They have continuously impressed me, that said some were way of the rails and just dumb releases but several models of late have been stellar. U 11, is super great. I also suspect the hardware to feel ultra high quality going from the engineering described in the launch. :-)
Fitbri, 25 May 2017Gee, HTC are pushing innovations on several fronts lately. Cool. . . Lately? Doesn't at the very least the past decade count as more than lately?
Nokia12, 25 May 2017Nope .."VR movies/Tv shows" on mobile phone will become big and that will be the driving forc... moreThis is screen res independant VR, has its own screens. And is only reasonable way to go to VR mainstream.
JDI developed this 3,6 lcd screen specifically for VR headsets.
I meant 300 $ Midrange smartphones , instead of 200 $ in my previous comment..
Max, 25 May 2017Said it before, will say it again: VR is NOT getting anywhere near actual mainstream until a C... moreNope .."VR movies/Tv shows" on mobile phone will become big and that will be the driving force for mainstream Vr adoption.. Gaming will flourish but it can't bring VR to mainstream , something you expect it to be mass adopted..
Problem has been the resolution .. Sony had a 4k display since 2015 , but they didn't utilise it at all... the screen resolution race stopped at 2k .. had it continued further, we would have had great VR experiences by now on mobile phones with gear VR/Daydream already..
once 4k resolution becomes a common thing on mainstream 200$ smartphones , combined with good quality headsets for 50$, you can then hope to see VR becoming a big success .. Just Movies and TV shows .. that only will make VR succeed in a big way, provided it is done right....
Looks interesting. But will probably just be a phase... and then will fade away. HTC is very gimmicky, but I like that.
Hats off for HTC. They are pushing the game forward this year. Great piece of technology, and the U11 deserves only praise.
@GSMArena I'm glad that you now do just show the price in the spec sheet instead of those useless price categories
Max, 25 May 2017Said it before, will say it again: VR is NOT getting anywhere near actual mainstream until a C... moreThis is as close as we're going to get in 2017:

U11 >>>>> S8
...but the majority prefer the front design, so yh.
Said it before, will say it again: VR is NOT getting anywhere near actual mainstream until a CHEAP headset that can display PC games becomes available. Self-contained / phone based proprietary viewers for "VR movies" and not much else will not do it, and neither will blisteringly expensive stuff like the Oculus / Vive.
Nothing good ever happens in the UK this and any and all discounts all happen in the US or ASIA
