Maybe because the quality of the photos on IG Stories really helped a lot. Snapchat has a poor photo quality on many smartphones. Unlike on IG, in any smartphones out there, they give the highest photo quality they can.

Surely Instagram stories will surpass snapchat. Instagram is available on all devices PCs, Mac, all Mobile devices etc.
While snapchat chat is only available to iPhone and android users only. It is only going to get worse for snapchat.
