If it isn't induction charging and it's the newer version of of wireless charging then why does it matter if the phone back is glass? Wouldn't that be a waste of money to retool the production line? Also wouldn't consumers like a glass-backed phone less?

It's only the last couple of years that AMOLED screens have gotten really good in phones. Prior models exhibited gaudy oversaturated colors, visible dithering due to insufficiently dense pen-tile matrices, poor outdoor visibility, or color shift from uneven subpixel decay.

Apple is not known for adding technology for technology's sake. They've generally waited until it was fully baked; for AMOLED, that wasn't until ~ the GS6 launch.

I'm not an apple fan but let me clear something up, The wireless tech that will be used in the next iPhone has nothing to do with the one we have seen before (induction plate charging).
Last year Apple got together with Energous to use their long distance wireless charging tech on the next iPhone iteration.
To be objective this is true wireless charging...but form their own video it has a catch... the device that changes the energous enabled devices is rather large, like TV cable box large.
So you will probably need to purchase the rather large and wonky charge base ( they show another that's the size of a rather large alarm clock) before you can use this with your phone. So the Dongle culture continues as you will probably need to plug the wireless charging base dongle (the actually show one on the video) so you can then charge your device wirelessly. So dongle for the car, dongle for the office...

I think where this will really work well if for office settings, airports, stores were multiple chargers can be set so people can charge while they shop/walk/dine etc.

yes apple may not be the first to use wireless charging but someone tell me were its says in this post that they are claiming to be, it is just a mention that they may be planning in for there upcoming device, i dont know why people are always first to say there not the first to do it, if they are coping so be it,

Seriously,if this thing has wireless charging and water resistance, I'd consider switching. Love the personalization of my s7 but hate waiting for updates. Son's iPhone 6s is impressive and fast.

Wireless charging so innovative! Like palm pre innovative. Amazing! Except it's 'brand new technology' because they'll call it air charge...

Ooooooo! Play some wonky indie music and have some hipster in front of a white background tell about these 'Apple first' technologies and you'll sell the begezzus out of them.

Seriously though, Apple is a fantastic marketing company. They have these sheep hypnotized.

Excellent! Now people will think that Apple created wireless charging while Nokia had it since 2012 and the iPhone 8 won't have any charging port. Next Apple will release a Bluetooth-to-Lightning to plug in your Lightning-to-Jack adapter for your headphones. And then that's going to be "Get Beats or AirPods or get another phone" with a new Airtooth proprietary wireless technology.
