da problem is it only on gp and not in gp xl right ?
I'd bet that the hardware lens is shaped the way it is for improvement in other areas, but it's a tradeoff. The software fix obviously won't change the hardware, but they want to retain the advantages their lens shape gives and negate the bad outcomes with a software solution. Sounds reasonable, even if not everyone agrees with the tradeoffs.
glad i waited and didn't buy this or pre-order.
1st they 'ran out of time' to add IP67 rating features.. then the camera with the hardware fault... makes me wonder whats next to be reported as an issue since they obviosuly 'ran out of time' to fully test the device.. maybe a note 7 incident repeat.. who knows... time will tell.
but one things for sure.. i wont be getting one now.
Is Google working on resolving microphone issue? I'm waiting for them to resolve it before I buy the Pixel. Don't want to buy it and then have to exchange.

DPreview Website shows Pixel XL outperforms iPhne 7 Plus by huge margin!!! It is a real shame that iPhone Camera and its software still struggling to compete with Google Pixel
The best camera phone with 89 point eh ? How do you fix that by software update ? Isnt that hardware problem..
Gonna be a costly miss..
The Nexus 5x/6p has exactly the same issue because it seems to be the same lens.

The therm of lens flare says it all: LENS flare. You need to change the lens to fix it. Unless the lenses are made out of nanotechnology - the only case where software can help :))
But let's get back to reality.
Giff, 26 Oct 2016Strange. £599 phone that Google brands premium has a lens flare. I'm so glad I wont be i... morethe answer is sony equals camera

Yeah, there is no way software is going to fix this. Lens flare is party of the physics of the lens. Even if HDR+ can address it somewhat, it will probably be at the expense of otherwise degrading the quality of the images or giving them a more processed look. It is also ridiculous to have the "solution" mean you have to use HDR+ all the time.
And honestly, I've really never noticed lens flare in images I take with my four year old Nexus 4. So it's just lame for Google to pretend this is not a defect. Sure any lens, if you try, can produce lens flare. But it shouldn't be a constant problem.
Google should fix the hardware in phones being manufactured after the first batch, at least, and replace phones for those who don't want the flare.
They should leave it in there and just rename the phone to Google Pixel J.J. Abrams edition.....
The LG V20's back glass on its camera crack just by putting the flash a little too long but nobody said anything about it.
It's like the iPhone 5 all over again.
2016 was a efd up year in mobile industry
