What you have here is a phone manufacturer whose company had died and is trying to resurrect itself by using the Android platform because it's own system had proven to be not viable in today's marketplace, not that I blame them because any other move by them at this time would be meaningless.
Rebranding an Alcatel phone and simply putting on a Blackberry skin will not cut it because the market has moved on in the five years since the Canadian manufacturer started it's decline and with major Android brands like HTC and Motorola still struggling to carve their own niche with the Google operating system, this can only be seen as the last few grasps at viability by the Canadians whose only claim to respectability was creating an extremely secure business platform and a messaging system that can be considered cumbersome, defunct and obselete compared to the current chat platforms like Whatsapp and Facebook messenger.

It all depends on what you do and what want from a phone: security, battery life, and speed. And if you are younger you want to take selfies and apps even when they don't add value to oneself.

Bloody marvellous actually with the DTEK (the software) and the 617 is brilliant and very zippy. Nothing wrong with that at all.!! Seriously considering it. Pity though it didn't have higher base storage without having to use up the dual sim with SD card.

You're right but who makes iPhones and other overpriced crap? Not TCL, true but Foxcon who's also Chinese so lets not discuss who makes what as most of the mobile phone are either made in China or Vietnam or India... It all depends on the level of control that the customer (BBM) applies on the manufacturer (TCL).

I really like BBs, but for U.S.$300, I'll grab a Sony Xperia M5 instead. More horsepower for the same cash. Slightly better battery as well.

Imo the price is quite a lot for a phone with same specs and everything of Alcatel idol 4 but it's Blackberry.Consider you pay 199$ for phone itself and built,then you pay 40$ for the security and around 20 $ for the advertising and brand popularity and well known history of making good phones.I am sure it's not 300 $ but 240-250$ definetly.Tbh i'd rather buy Asus Zenfone 3 5'5 for the price but oh well.Then again better than Iphone (except 6,6s,6 plus which are amazing).
