@The Cat: At least learn how to make a joke before making one.

@galaxys6owner: Obv if it comes preinstalled there would be chances MS 'did something' to it.

@BlackReaper: MS is not tracking users? Have you been living under a rock since Windows 10 roll out?

@MdN8: Hope so mate.

To me this sounds like porting some parts of GNU, the bash, console tools, etc.. Not really Linux.

Anonymous, 30 Mar 2016I did not know Ubuntu was big enough to make porting to Windows worthwhile. But congratulation... moreYes, Ubuntu and Linux are big enough... In fact much much bigger than Microsoft if we talk about cloud, server and internet of things. Canonical has 2/3 of cloud business and growing. Microsoft is trying to catch up here, they already cooperate with Canonical on Azure stuff. And this will, I guess, make it easier to people who want to use Windows to keep contributing to Linux-based stuff.
As long as Microsoft doesn't use this for patent trolling, spying and blackmailing.

Umbilical Noose, 30 Mar 2016This is not good. Ubuntu is one of the most, if not most, used Linux Distro. If they join hand... moreI hope not. The community is big enough to notice if Ubuntu does something weird. For now this thing is just something for developers to install in Windows 10 for easier programming, it's not full Ubuntu. Let's hope it stays that way. If not... People can always switch to another distro.

Most people wont even know Ubuntu is built inside windows and wont use it.

And if really feel like someone is watching you electronically and you believe that Ubuntu will not do that than just install Ubuntu OS. lt is getting integrated in windows but still it will be available as a separate OS.

I did not know Ubuntu was big enough to make porting to Windows worthwhile. But congratulations to Canonical! Also, it will be nice with the closed source Windows that MS has been hiding behind for years now becoming opensource as required by the GPL of opensource derived softwares. But why would anyone pick Windows instead of Linux? Is there anything that Windows as an OS is better at than Linux? An OS is after all "just" a piece of software that manages services and devices.

Windows already has Powershell, which is vastly superior to bash.
                        Why settle for something inferior?

its cool but there is small problem:
Life-linux users have their own preferred linux distributions and they not gonna switch no mater what.
Windows linux users dont give a damn about commands, because this command system is actually reason why they hate linux.

And all other users that balance between this two system(like me, i use both of them)
Actually ALSO F hate using commands, no matter how much you can make it.

                          Because guess what?
We have all that powerfull PCs and all that HD-ultra-super-4k monitors to use F Graphic User Interface. if you like spending 10sec typing on keyboards command to copy one file to another folder... be my guest and keep using it in your programmer layer in your parent basement, but normal people actually like to speed up work in nice and easy interface.

Because after all those years I spend in linux I still think that forcing user to use tex command is like forcing driver to starting engine by connecting wires under the hood.

This is interesting, wishing the installation of different desktop environment pushed to existence in future. Hopefully now people will learn more than next>next>next>install.

Am I the only one to feel that picture in the post is redundant? (I get that mixing different race and gender together is a symbolic representation of bringing different operating system together)
