Pixel 8a, 14 Aug 2024How far off a Pixel 8a is the photo/video quality on the Thinkphone? I can get the Thinkphone... moredo you mind share where in the UK you can get it for 270£?
I can never figure out why but the wireless capabilities of this phone is awful. Bluetooth specifically is really bad. There are bluetooth devices this phone will outright not connect to. I have a backup S21 and it seems to connect to the same devices just fine no issues. Even auto pairing to those devices. The ONLY device the ThinkPhone will auto pair to is my smart watch. Speakers, headphones, car entertainment systems this phone struggles with significantly. Also the usb device handling is just as bad and I wonder if it is related. Android auto is very spotty on this device. I have ruled out the car entertainment system as the issue with other devices such as a google pixel 7 and a Galaxy S21. This phone has been a struggle since day one I would not recommend.
Peek Display is gone. The replacement is Lockscreen and it simply isn't the same. It isn't as intuitive and user friendly. You can no longer go into the app through the notification by simply swiping up nor would you see a full screen of preview of the notification of interest without having the wake up the screen. The new Lockscreen sucks as compared to the Peek Display.
How far off a Pixel 8a is the photo/video quality on the Thinkphone? I can get the Thinkphone new for £270 direct but just bought the pixel 8a for £260 but do not like the slow charging. wired and wireless on the Pixel.
Anonymous, 05 May 2024I got this phone 3 weeks ago, and I'm extremely disappointed with its battery life. I mea... moresometimes RAM usage is high because it is more efficient and fast to put useful data (progarms) in there rather than let the hard drive do the work, especially background stuff.
so to maximize performance many systems nowadays try to use as much (Free)RAM as possible. They should decrease usage for this reason when you actually use many apps of your choice.
June security patch just arrived in Germany, great job Motorola!

As it turns out, the issue is caused by a system application called ".qtidataservices", and the workaround I found was too keep the phone in airplane mode, which suppresses the issue. As far as I can tell, that rescue tool you mentioned requires windows 10 or 11, so I guess I'll have to find someone willing to lend me their PC 😅

I got this phone 3 weeks ago, and I'm extremely disappointed with its battery life. I mean, even with disabled wifi, 5g, gps and Bluetooth, dark mode on, energy save on, screen brightness at 10% and refresh rate locked at 60hz, the phone will drain 30% of the battery overnight, while it sits idle. I have even enabled the developer mode to restrict the number of processes allowed to run in the background, but that didn't work either. I'm also surprised at how much of its 8gb RAM is constantly being used, even under light use, although I'm not sure if this is an issue with the phone or android (13 then upgraded to 14). Has anyone else been dealing with those problems?
I'm in Australia and had to use the rescue tool to upgrade to Android 14, as it wasn't received OTA. The rescue tool is showing that there's a newer build available, which I presume is the April patch, but it's also not available OTA. Has anyone received an update with the April patch? I'm not going to wipe my phone every month in order to receive updates.
Anonymous, 18 Feb 2024If you grabbed it for its $400 on sale price(or less) that has been going on/off since October... moreNow tell me where's the catch.
How many nits?
I'm a long time moto (and IBM / Lenovo) fan (25+ years). Currently I'm using a Moto Edge 20 Lite/Fusion for 2 years now. I would like to upgrade to the ThinkPhone - but I'm disappointed this does not come with eSIM. As a traveling business user, I travel through multiple different countries regularly and buying / swapping physical SIM cards each time, or having to rely on roaming is not efficient at all. I know the 2023 Edge+ has eSIM, but I prefer the look and feel of this ThinkPhone model... ;) ... I'm waiting to see if the next iteration of the ThinkPhone would have eSIM..
