Motorola Edge in for review

Motorola's attempt at getting back in in the high-end game gave us the the Edge lineup and like many other OEMs, alongside the Edge+, there's a cheaper alternative to the flagship, which aims to cut a few bangs and whistles to keep the price palpable. The aim, as always is to get the same smartphone experience at a fraction of the price.

The Motorola Edge features a tall 6.7-inch OLED screen with 1080 x 2340px resolution and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. It also has extreme curves to the sides shaping that distinct look.

The back, on the other hand, is made of plastic and underneath you will find the Snapdragon 765G SoC paired with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. Both configurations offer 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage with optional microSD card expansion. That last bit is actually an upgrade over the Edge+, which doesn't let you add more storage.

The camera setup is pretty similar to the Edge+ with a couple of key downgrades. The pure Edge drops the 108MP sensor and comes with a still large 1/1.7" 64MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture. The 8MP telephoto unit offers 2x optical zoom instead of 3x. The 16MP ultrawide cam with f/2.2 aperture is carried over from the Plus along with 3D ToF sensor for depth mapping. The small cutout in the display in the upper-left corner houses a 25MP sensor.

A 4,500 mAh battery provides all the juice but unlike its more expensive sibling, the vanilla Motorola Edge settles for 18W wired charging so there's no wireless charging.

The upcoming full review will not only answer the question of whether the extra €600 for the Edge+ are worth it but will also try and find out if the vanilla Edge will be able to carve a niche for its own. Stay tuned!
