Motorola has joined the race for the thinnest and lightest smartphone with the newly launched Edge 70. It is the global version of the China-locked Moto X70 Air, and making it the headliner of the next-gen Edge series is a brilliant move.
Motorola's Edge series has been experimenting for quite some time with all sorts of phone types - compact and lightweight, thin and powerful, camera-centric, and artsy, even with wooden back panels. The Edge 70 appears to be a natural continuation of what Motorola has been doing in the past few years, as opposed to the shot in the dark by Samsung and Apple.
The Motorola Edge 70 highlight features are its 6mm thin profile, 159g of weight, and the impressively large for these measurements 4,800mAh battery.
The Edge 70 packs a 6.7-inch OLED with 1220p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support and Gorilla Glass 7i protection. The chipset of choice here is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 coupled with 12GB RAM by default.
The camera department includes a 50MP OIS primary for wide and 2x zoomed photos, a 50MP AF ultrawide camera for panoramic and macro shots, and a 50MP selfie imager. All cameras support a minimum of 4K30 capturing.
Motorola has also fitted a relatively large battery - a 4,800mAh cell with support for 68W wired and 15W wireless charging.
Durability has not suffered by making the phone thinner - the Edge 70 is both IP68 and IP69 rated, as well as compliant to a number of MIL-SDT-810H standards.
It seems like Motorola really has it all figured out. Let's find out if that's really the case.
The Motorola Edge 70 ships inside a thin paper box that contains the phone and a USB-C cable.
Motorola has also bundled a transparent MagSafe-ready case, which is nice. It's used for both wireless charging and attaching any third-party MagSafe accessories on the back of the phone.
I know, it's a standard claim of every brand these days but it fails to say what the user experience will be. In case of older iPhones, when it reached 80% or less your phone was pretty useless unless you carried around a charger and/or powerban...
Was looking forward to this review. Motorola is getting pretty close to competing with Samsung and Google I am mainly dissappointed in the brightness of the screen especially manual mode.. My Pixel is nearly twice as bright and better speak...
